In June we profiled an 8.8cm gun kit eduard had released and interest was expressed for a 10.5cm gun -and now it's here!
Originally designed as a surface-only weapon, a wet-mount version was developed for U-Boats. It was also exported to Spain during the 1940s.

The standard unshielded low-angle deck gun mounted forward of the conning tower in type I, type IX and type X U-boats. The guns were also used in shielded high-angle mountings aboard type 35 and type 43 minesweepers, Elbing class torpedo boats, cruiser Emden, and old battleships Schlesien and Schleswig-Holstein.

The eduard kit (No. 672053) is made up of resin and brass parts and is listed on their site for @$11.70 (US) plus shipping.

The detail & quality of this 10,5cm deck gun are AMAZING. So why the 1-star rating? It's way out of scale. The scale/size of this gun is much larger than 1/72... it is oversized by roughly 20~30% The gun does not fit properly on the Revell 1/72 Type IXC U-boat (U505) -- very likely the submarine kit it was designed for. Measurements of period photos of the real 10,5 cm gun have provided proper dimensions, and the Eduard version is simply too big... noticeably so. See here for the forum discussion: LINK A support issue was registered with Eduard in hopes that this issue is addressed ASAP.

I may have been too hasty in my review... other plans have surfaced that seem to show the Eduard gun dimensions are accurate.

Disregard my last . The Eduard gun IS too big by over 22%. We have compiled and submitted a comprehensive report to Eduard with our findings, including comparative dimensions, historical photos, etc. that prove our case. We strongly suspect that the source plan used by Eduard is out of scale.

Hi Glenn, From the reading that I have done in the past, it has been stated that both guns actually were mounted on the same base. The difference being the guns themselves. So you are right on this as when I compare both Eduard guns, the 10.5cm is definitely oversized. Cheers, Joe

Thanks, Joe. Is there a documented reference for that?

Good news! Eduard is re-releasing a corrected version of their 10,5cm deck gun 1/72. Anyone who purchased the original (overscale) version may contact Eduard Support to get a new replacement.
