Golden Hind or (Golden Hinde) was an English galleon best known for her circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580, captained by Sir Francis Drake. Zvezda is offering a kit of this historic vessel in 1/350 as a snap-together kit - a chance for some of you old sea dogs to maybe recruit some young swabs to the hobby of model ship building.
She was originally known as Pelican, but was renamed by Drake mid-voyage in 1578, as he prepared to enter the Strait of Magellan, calling her Golden Hind to compliment his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton, whose armorial crest was a golden 'hind' (a female deer). Hatton was one of the principal sponsors of Drake's world voyage.
Previously, Zvezda had offered a kit of the Hind in 1/200 that was 184mm in length as opposed to this kit's 104mm length.
This kit (No. 6509 ) is composed of 65 pieces and is becoming available for pre-order at several online retailers, retailing for approximately $14.00 - $18.00 (US) plus shipping.
