The latest from Niko Models is what looks to be a beautifully done waterline kit of the US Navy cruiser USS Boise in her 1942 configuration. A Brooklyn class light cruiser, she served in both Pacific and European theaters of the Second World War.

According to Steve Ewing's American Cruisers of World War II, the Brooklyn-class ships were a strong influence on US cruiser design. Nearly all subsequent US cruisers, heavy and light, were directly or indirectly based on them.
Boise was present at the Battle of Cape Esperance, also known as the Second Battle of Savo Island, where US naval forces engaged an Imperial Japanese naval force of cruisers and destroyers. Boise was struck twice in that battle and lost 107 of her crew and her captain, Edward Moran, was later awarded the Navy Cross for his leadership in that action.
This new multimedia kit (No. 7090) is of resin and PE parts and depicts the USS Boise as she was in the Solomon Islands in 1942 for the aforementioned battle.
This kit is available as a pre-order from Free Time Hobbies for $89.95 (US) plus shipping.
