News in to the MSW Newsdesk!

Here's a most welcome addition to MSW's databanks of new vendors, a German based manufacturer of turned barrels and after market accessories concentrating on the shipwright, Modellmarine.de shop!
In this age of increasing accuracy and overall looks of model kit subjects, there is an ever increasing demand to supply modelers with quality, accurate, after market accessories to help with these factors.

A new German based manufacturer has arrived into the market with a very interesting line of introductory products, ranging from turned barrels and fittings, to precision tooling.

Looking over the company catalog, there is a good selection of both, and judging from the first impression, one can only hope to see more like products introduced for us ship builders!

Here is a few details of the company history.

In 2004 ,www.modellmarine.de was founded by some enthusiastic shipmodel builders. The intension was to create a german speaking webzine about shipmodelling with kit and book reviews, build-ups, walk-arounds, tips and technics etc.

The webzine is actualised daily with new articles and they are very proud to get articles from outstanding European shipmodellers .
They had never expected to grow so fast, but now after nearly two years online the site has more than 20,000 visitors each month.

Their “crew” is very experienced in ship technology, naval history and of course in building ship models. Therefore they do know about the deficits and problems with many kits and decided to make replacement parts and detail-sets on their own to correct those failures.

Week after week, inquiries were received, and requests of, if they would sell these
parts, and due to this fact, have started the modellmarine.shop in October 2006
to prospected modelbuilders.

Every member of the modellmarine community has a regular fulltime job, so
right now the shop is only a small side line business. Mr. Burkhardt Masch started up with the production of brass gun barrels and in the near future it’s planned to offer photo etched parts and eventually resin parts also.

The company promises to provide a good quality kit combined with a fair price hope to
establish their little shop in the big market of replacement parts over the course of time.

I personally have a few kits I can do reviews on. Mine are car kits and this will help that genre of models. So, if you want to try your hand at writing a review in the following areas read this feature and give it a try. I will accept reviews of Cars - civilian or race Sci-Fi - SW, BSG, ST, anything else Real Space RailRoad - static or layout WarGame Tools Books on the above items.

If the subject is still available in "usual" channels then a Review is appropriate. If it's some old OOP thing drug off the shelf but not available other than ebay, etc, then it's best done in a different venue ... FWIW, John

I voted and Jim's comment about the added work does give some dimension to the question...because it's realy easy to say YES! MORE! for anything. :-) I for one have a range of old to new kits in my stash that are all generally available via the usual channels still but that may not necessarily be true for others depending. If an "older" kit review process were initiated, it would have to have a separate staff I'd think from those that currently handle the "new" review process just from a workload management perspective. The selection of what is/isn't reviewed would also be a little harder just because the population is a lot broader and not so easily governed...the "new" review population is somewhat self-governed by its very nature, the exact opposite is true of the "older" kits. For it to produce a solid value for the effort required, some additional criteria or mechanics would have to be set up...for example, what would be the procurement process for these "older" kits....would it depend solely on someone happening to have it in their stash and willing to do a review or something else? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, just wonder about the execution and what would be required to bring it to life.

Sean, Are you drilling down to an area of interest? Take this page for example.... https://armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showreviews&secid=10 You can find all reviews by: - manufacturer - section - item type - historical period - and country! - and you can search via Google search top right. Name me another site that does all this? I really don't get it sometimes. No wonder Jim comes down on posts like this with signs of obvious suspicion that their is an agenda at play. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goodnight, Jim

I agree, our review section is one of the best ones to search through. Missing Lynx does it by country&era only; HyperScale's is one big long list by genre; and PMMS does it by manufacturer.

I second that. I have often had use for past reviews and have never had problems finding them. Yesterday Robert Philips asked for information on grass, for dio's. Took me a split second to find two useful reviews.

Hi Jim Thanks for taking the time in a patient and constructive manner to further explain the review section to me. I have now taken sometime and had a good play around the review section once I was armed with a little more information from Scott and now I understand the logic behind it and how to search and locate items. There was/is no agenda here from my perspective just plain old user ignorance on my part. Again a big thanks to both you and Scott for being so helpful. Regards Sean

I am very interested in reviews of older kits. My stash pile is full of them. I may not be building them anytime soon, but its great to have a database of knowledge to draw from when I finally do get them ready for some glue and paint. Mike

Before I vote, explain the options. Where it says "Anything before ..." didn't you really mean "Nothing older than ..." ? Thx, John
