A new ship is here from Mirage Hobby -the M/S BATORY: Operation Husky. The new 1/500 scale M/S BATORY is on shelves now!

M/S „Batory” ordered for serving the line to North America (New York and Halifax) did she’s line cruises in heavy North Atlantic conditions. Lighter cruises were excursion cruises, but in pre-war time there were only nine of them.
In August 24th 1939 She took to New York in She’s last pre-war cruise by the way calling at French port Cherbourg. In September 1st to „Batory” reaches the news about war’s breakout, and, according to earlier orders, Captain Eustachy Borkowski steers the Ship to Canadian port St. John, and from there in the day September 5th to New York.
Ship’s history, as the troop transport, we described at the set from Years 1939-1942. Presently we will describe shortly the stories which took place with the part of „Batory” in Years 1942-45. In August 1942 in the Glasgow dockyard dock „Batory” was subjected to the overhaul accordingly with rebuild as landing ship. Main artillery guns were changed, added was 152 mm (6 inch) gun, and foredeck gun. After installation of additional booms ahead of head wall of main quarterdeck Ship was adapted for transporting the LCM Mk3 (Landing Craft Mechanized). Ship’s sloops were exchanged for LCA’s (Landing Craft Assault) fulfilling also the role of life boats. Such adapted Ship took for landing exercises in goal of preparing to landing in North Africa. To october trip to Oran in Convoy KMF-1 „Batory” took on She’s decks American soldiers who debarked at Mersa Bu Zajar Bay. In next trip to Africa, specifically to Algiers, on it’s anchorage „Batory” was attacked by Italian torpedo planes.
Attack missed which proved the Ship’s nickname „Lucky Ship”. After time of Algiers cruises Ship started the preparations for Invasion of Sicily. Convoy KMF-18 is the transport of almost two thousand U.S. soldiers who „Batory” delivered to Passero Cap on Sicily. Farther trip is Alexandria with short anchoring at Malta. In this convoy „Batory” had the collision with Dutch ship „ Christiaan Huygens”. In Alexandria made were only preliminary docking, and on the full overhaul, which took three months, Ship was directed to Bombay. It is the time of cruising on the Indian Ocean waters. In January 1944 „Batory” returned to Mediterranean and cruised with Polish soldiers from 2nd Polish Corps and Ship was visited by gen. Wladyslaw Anders. Nwext interesting trip was boarding the French diplomats, who Ship debarked in Morlaix River estuary. Next Ship’s overhaul took place in Glasgow in December 1944. After this overhaul command over the Ship took High Sea Navy Cpt. Zygmunt Deyczakowski.
Re-cruises to Bombay and Mombassa as well as cruises on Mediterranean taking time up to the February 1945. At the end of the war „Batory” is passing next overhaul. When the guns fell silent, Ship carried on She’s decks soldiers returning to their countries.
