The Empire State of the high seas gets a the Pontos treatment with a new Detail-Up set. Meant for use with the Trumpeter Kit (No. 05339), this extensive set makes it a museum piece.
Entering service in 1914, The USS New York was part of the U.S. Navy force which was sent to reinforce the British Grand Fleet in the North Sea near the end of World War I. She entered the Neutrality Patrol at the beginning of World War II, and served as a convoy escort for ships to Iceland and Great Britain in the early phase of the war. She saw her first combat against coastal artillery during Operation Torch around Casablanca in North Africa, and later became a training ship. Late in the war, she moved to the Pacific, and provided naval gunfire support for the invasion of Iwo Jima and later the invasion of Okinawa.
This set (No. 35023F1) will depict the New York as she looked in 1944. It is composed of 260 scribed brass pieces, 4 Photo etched sheets, 5 resin parts and a stained wooden deck.
The set is currently available at Free Time Hobbies in two versions - a 'Teak Deck' and a '20B Blue Deck'. Both sets are $150.00 (US) plus shipping.
