Pit-Road (SkyWave) of Japan has has announced the June 2015 release of kit PITW-175, a full-hull version of the Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer Kamikaze (“Divine Wind”) in 1/700 scale. The kit will also include two Kairyu (“Sea Dragon”) midget submaries.

The new destroyer appears to be an upgraded re-release of the IJN Kamikaze kit (W-14) originally released by Pit-Road in the 1990s. That kit could be built as the Kamikaze, Asakaze, Harukaze, Matsukaze, or Hatakaze. The new version will sport an added lower hull plus screws, rudder, and a display stand as well as the two minisubs. The Kairyu midgets were originally issued by Pit-Road/Skywave as companions to the submarine RO-35.

I had built the Kamikaze’s semi-sister Minekaze (also by Pit-Road–see the build up pic at right) during the original release; I can attest to the high quality of the moldings. Both the Kamikaze class DD and the midgets have been out of production since then, so this reissue will be most welcome!
