From our friends at L'Arsenal 2.0 is the long anticipated release of the 1/400 scale French Navy submarine, Casabianca.
The Casabianca was a 302 foot Redoutable-Class French submarine commissioned in 1935. Just after Phoney War, which preceded the outset of the Second World War, where Poland had been invaded there were no real commitments to fighting against Hitler, France was invaded and fell at the hand of the German War Machine. As part of an armistice with German, the French Fleet was disarmed.
In 1942 however, the Captain of the Casabianca resupplied the boat with arms and fuel, illegally under the agreement of armistice, and managed to escape the Port of Toulon just as the German SS seized the port. the Casabianca would soon be in silent service for the Allies. The Casablanca would go onto serve proudly for the Allied cause, sinking at least two warships, a merchantman, supply men, arms and intelligence and was instrumental in the Liberation of Corsica where she had deployed a one hundred troop invasion force. The Casablanca would survive the War and was stricken from the registry in 1952 and then sold for scrap. The boat was the inspiration behind a French classic film titled 'Casablanca' in 1951.
