Announced for July 2015 release is the Imperial Japanese Navy light aircraft carrier Shoho in tiny 1/2000 scale.
Produced by Fairy Kikaku, the little four inch long waterline carrier model comes cast in three white resin hull parts with a one piece flight deck.
Fairy Kikaku (“Fairy Planning”), is apparently a small Japanese “kitchen company” without their own store or Web presence, but their kits can be found on Japanese Amazon or from Hobbylink Japan. In addition to 1/2000 scale ships they also offer other ships in 1/700 scale as well as quite a few 1/144 scale aircraft and 1/72 armor kits. I haven’t seen any of the Fairy Kikaku ship models in person, but if their 1/72 scale armor kits are any indication of the quality of their ship models, they are fairly good.
Their 1/2000 scale ship range so far consists of the carriers Shoho, Ryujo, and Hosho as well as the heavy cruiser Furutaka. While they don't appear to be as nice as their 1/2000 scale competitors from F Toys, these models do offer some ships unavailable from that company’s line, and they can be had at less than half the cost.
These little kits aren’t for everyone, but if you want to do a Battle of the Coral Sea diorama from 50,000 feet, you are in luck!
The Shoho can be ordered for ¥500 (approximately US$4.06) from Hobbylink Japan.
