Special Hobby have sent us details of two new releases in their Special Navy series. The deck guns are designed for Revell's 1:72 kit.
N72018 - U-Boot IX Weapon Set – Single 37 mm & 2 twin 20 mm AA cannons

This set offers a very detailed cast anti-aircraft equipment for Type IX submarines. Both the 37 mm cannon and the two 20 mm anti-aircraft twin-guns have turned metal barrels. The control wheels and other thin parts can be found of the photo-etched fret. Both cannons can be used not only for Type IX submarines, but also for the Type VII, for ship decks or for dioramas.

N72020 - U-Boot IX Weapon Conversion set - new 105mm cannon and Flak Vierling

With this conversion set you can build Type IX submarines with older equipment – with which these submarines achieved their greatest triumphs. Both the 105 mm anti-ship cannon and the 20 mm anti-aircraft Flak Vierling have turner metal barrels. The control wheels and and other thin parts can be found on the photo-etched fret. Both cannons can be used not only for Type IX submarines, but also for ship decks and dioramas.

These are good, but the Type IX kit from Revell can't be built to carry a gun OOB. The conning towers of the gun-toting subs were different.

These guns are very welcome especially the 10.5cm and hopefully they have got it in the right dimensions. The Eduard release of the 10.5cm, the gun is about 30% too big. This gun package is good if modeling an early "C" later "C"s and C/40 did not have a deck gun. Also if one wants to model a "B" variant, a 3.7cm SKC 30 U on a LC 39 mount is required and is not provided in these releases. In any case conning towers for a "B" or early "C" will require extensive modifications. Now off to find some plans for a new towers. Cheers, Joe

This is great for Revell's 1/72 S-Boot. The Griffon alternatives are very flimsy, especially the 3.7 cm. Must get! When and where available??

Are these available yet, at all? I just visited their site and it looks like they have not updated since last fall.

Thanks Joe. Ordered and waiting. What with Griffon PE, lots of Archer rivets, Andrea and Hecker-Goros crew, and now this, this going to be one heck of an expensive S-Boot! Good thing the missus doesn't see my MC statements!

Ahoy Biggles It sounds like an exciting S100 build you have planned. I hope you will do a build blog here on it. Cheers Sean
