1⁄1200
Thursday, June 30, 2016 - 08:40 PM UTC
Zvezda of Russia has recently released a 1/1200 scale rendition of the Japanese battleship Yamato to go with their “World of Warships” gaming system.
As with Zvezda’s other 1/1200 “World of Warships” units Shinano, Iowa, and Yorktown, this small scale Yamato is a repop of a model originally produced the Italian company Casadio back in the early 1970s. The little battlewagon is easy to build and basically accurate, but suffers from poor fit in places and generally simplified detail. It would be a great starter kit for young modelers, although for some reason Zvezda’s release at about US$15.00 is much more expensive than identical previous issues by other companies.
For those interested, here is a link to my more detailed build review of the Revell Germany issue of this classic kit: https://modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/review/11203
If you want one of these little Yamatos, I’d recommend picking up the Revell Germany kit which is still widely available at about half the price of Zvezda’s version!
