Pit-Road has announced the May 2017 re-release of kit PITW-37E, the repair ship Akashi in 1/700 scale.
This is a re-release of Pit-Road’s Akashi from 1997, but this release has added a set of photoetch to replace the plastic cranes. This is a definite upgrade to what is still an outstanding kit – and if any model cries out for photoetch enhancement, it is the Akashi with its prominent cranes!

The Akashi is listed by Hobbylink Japan at http://hlj.com/product/PITW-37E and can be preordered for ¥3,600 (about US$33.00).

would be nice to see such a ship in 1:350 scale to see something new as all the usual battle ships and cruisers

I agree! Other than the Hasegawa Akitsushima (rare as hens teeth), there isn't much in the way of naval auxiliaries in 1/350!
