TTH Models, a division of designing/engineering/modeling firm The Technology House, joins the ranks of the MSW vendor database with NEWS of some very interesting looking cast ship models.
The Technology House (TTH), was started eleven years ago this coming August. Starting out as a product design, CAD & rapid prototyping businessthe company has evolved into a manufacturing company as they producing the products that they design, as well.
Eighteen months ago they started using some of their technology to create some very interesting and unique ship and boat models, all cast in pewter. For some ships, they create the models in 3D CAD, pro/e or SolidWorks, build the masters on a Stereolithography machine (SLA) and create molds from the master, for others they use high speed milling machines.
In mid-July I will be taking a trip to the facility, as luckily, the company is only a few hours drive from my home base, so an in-depth article about their processes will be following shortly.
The crew is led by Eric Hofmeister. who is a 1990 USNA graduate, who served aboard the USS Yorktown CG 48, and in their engineering/CAD Department, Ed Dickinson a retired OSCM, Scott Moonen a retired BT1/GSE1, and Dave Adams, a retired chemical engineer.
Chip Gear (The Skipper) retired from the Navy after a career in Surface Warfare, in which his career highlight was the command of the USS Capodanno FF 1093. Ed was a Master Chief on Chip’s ship and Scott was Chip’s fireroom supervisor.
The company is currently casting and producing seven seperate ship types, in both 1/700 scale as well as 1/1200 versions of the same subjects. The castings are in solid pewter, and look very convincing from the images!
We hope to see more of this company's products highlited on the pages of MSW in the future. Be sure to read more about TTH Models and it's parent company, The Technology House, on the official company website!
