For those who are building straight deck, Korean War-era Essex class SCB-27 ships, some had a port side crane sponson located just aft of the midships aircraft elevator, differently shaped than the starboard crane sponson. Here you go:

And here's the starboard side crane sponson, appropriate for both Korean War-era SCB-27 and Vietnam War-era SCB-125 ships whose aft elevator was moved outboard. This configuration is accurate for the sponson located aft of the elevator.

Joining a growing list of Essex class aircraft carrier islands, as they appeared in World War Two, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, are two new late-World War Two islands:


An Essex class island for USS Lexington CV-16 as it appeared in 1945 with enlarged bridge, is now available in 1/350 scale. The island was in this configuration during attacks on the Japanese mainland

An Essex class island for USS Bon Homme Richard CV-31 as it appeared in 1945 is now ready in 1/350 scale. The island was in this configuration during end-of-war aerial attacks on the Japanese mainland.



Many Essex class islands are already available in 1/700, 1/530, 1/525 and 1/350 scales with more coming.
