Looking to depict Kido Butai in it's early years? Aoshima Models announces the releases of their 1/700 Japanese Type 96 Carrier Aircraft kit.
In this kit you will find three Type 96 Mitsubishi A5M4 Claude fighters, three Type 96 Yokosuka B4Y Jean torpedo bombers and three Type 96 Aichi D1A Susie dive bombers .
The A5M Claude was the first monoplane fighter for the IJN and was developed in 1934, first flew in February 1935 and went into production in 1936 and flew off the carriers Akagi, Hosho, Kaga, Ryujo and Zuiho. The Claude was also assigned to 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, Oita, Ominato, Omura, Sasebo and Yokosuka Kokutais.
The Yokosuka B4Y Jean was a single-engined carrier-borne torpedo-bomber with all-metal structure and light alloy and fabric covering. It was crewed by a pilot in open cockpit and navigator and radio operator/gunner in enclosed rear cockpit.
The Jean was assigned to the aircraft carriers Akagi, Hosho, Kaga, Ryujo and Soryu and the 13th and 15th Kokutais.
The Aichi D1A Susie was a single-engined carrier-borne biplane dive-bomber with a metal structure and metal and fabric covering. It was crewed by a pilot and radio-operator/gunner in tandem open cockpits. It was assigned to the carriers: Akagi, Kaga and Ryujo and the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Kokutais.
