Tamiya Models follows up their Pearl Harbor box sets with the new Battle of Malaya Box Set. This set focuses on the infamous voyage of Force Z on December 8, 1941. Featuring Tamiya’s new HMS Repulse and HMAS Vampire, the kit contains everything to portray the fateful moment in which the Japanese Navy attacked Force Z in route to Singapore. The set will retail for $92.63 USD.
About the Set
This box set includes the following 1/700 scale Waterline Series model kits:
Sent to Singapore to help deter Japanese advances in the region, the battleship Prince of Wales and battle cruiser Repulse were symbols of British naval power. On December 8th, 1941,these two capital ships, escorted by two E Class destroyers (HMS Electra, HMS Express), one S Class destroyer (HMS Tenedos), and the Australian navy destroyer HMAS Vampire, sent out from Singapore to attack a Japanese invasion force. This mission was aborted and the group, minus the detached HMS Tenedos, turned back towards Singapore. However, they had already been spotted by Japanese aircraft and submarines, and in the ensuing bomb and torpedo attack by bombers, both capital ships were sunk.
This box set includes the following 1/700 scale Waterline Series model kits:
- British Battleship Prince of Wales
- British Battle Cruiser Repulse
- British E Class Destroyer (x2)
- Australian Navy Destroyer HMAS Vampire.
- 12 Type 1 Betty attack bombers
- 7 Type 96 Nell attack bombers
- Ten 30cm long supports to mount the bombers for display
