Digging in to the archives, Tamiya Models announces that they will re-release the 1/72 Vosper Fast Patrol Boat Perkasa. Originally released as a motorized model, this Vosper Fast Patrol Boat will be sold as a static display model kit. This popular classic retains all of it nicely molded detail and will build into a fine replica of this legendary maker’s patrol boat.
As with the first edition of this kit, the kit represents the Vosper Fast Patrol Boat Perkasa.
The accurately-reproduced hull and superstructure gives the modeler an abundance of detail, including 40mm and 20mm cannon mounts, bridge interior, torpedoes with mounts, and masts, propellers and anchor.
Ship History
Vosper & Company was a British shipbuilding firm founded in 1871 and came to specialize in small craft. During WWII, the company became well known for their motor torpedo boat designs. After the war, Vosper continued to develop small fast patrol craft, one of which was the Brave Class. These boats were equipped with 3 Bristol Proteus engines, which powered the boat to top speeds of over 50 knots. They were armed with one 40mm Bofors cannon, two 20mmOerlikon cannons, and four torpedoes. The Perkasa was one of several Brave Class boats exported to the Royal Malaysian Navy.
