Helping to preserve the history of the tall ship, Aoshima Models announces their upcoming sailing ships 1/350 Danmark and 1/350 Esmeralda. These two beautiful clipper ships are very reasonably priced at $15.84 each. They are expected to hit the shelves in mid March.
Ship Histories
Danmark is a steel three-masted ship which was built in 1933 and is owned by the Danish Marine Authority who use her as a floating school for training young apprentice seamen and as a roving ambassador for Denmark. The ship was visiting the USA at the outbreak of WWII and was handed over to the US authorities until the end of the war.
Esmeralda (BE-43) is a steel-hulled four-masted barquentine tall ship of the Chilean Navy and currently the second tallest and longest sailing ship in the world. Since it commissioning in 1954, Esmeralda has been a training ship for the Chilean Navy. It has visited more than 300 ports worldwide acting as a floating embassy for Chile. It has participated in Operation Sail at New York in 1964, 1976 and 1986. She participated in Osaka World Sail in 1983. It has also participated in International Regattas of Sails in 1964, 1976, 1982 and 1990 winning the coveted Cutty Sark Trophy in the latter two participations.
