Chub Club
The highly politically incorrect name for those sailors who are overweight and now part of the Navies physical fitness program. They must attend mandatory physical fitness training every day and in some cases their food rations are restricted as well.
Then entering boot camp everyone has their body fat measured. Everyone over a certain percentage is automatically put into the chub club. The must wear blue head bands while attending PT in the morning and also had to take another session at night. They were told to watch what they ate. This was done on the honor system, but for some reason the Company Commanders knew every time they broke this rule.
Being a member is required until you lower your body fat to a certain level. Every sailor is checked at different times of the year to make sure they are not overweight. However not every member of the chub club is over weight. If you fail your physical fitness test, you are required to also take extra PT along with the clubbers.
There can be some dramatic results by being a club member. One guy we had in boot camp lost so much weight he had to have a whole new set of uniforms issued because they could not tailor his to fit him.
