Bag Nasty
  • navywordoftheday
One of the lines at the galley to avoid, the bag lunch line. The lunch is normally made by people who are waiting for their training class to start so the Navy uses them for free labor at the galley. Of course this makes them less than happy about working. I know I did this for two weeks before I started PeeWees, Propulsion Engineering Basics.

A bag nasty includes lunch meet, cheese, lettuce, tomato, bread, fruit, chips, and a drink. None of us working in the galley really cared if something fell on the floor and how it was packed. We had to make 500 every day after breakfast but before lunch. So we busted out butts to get them done. I know we should have been nicer, but getting up at 3:00 am was not the best way to start a day.

On weekend sit was great because we did not have to make bag lunches and we had plenty of spare time to garb burgers fresh from the flat grill.

The bag nasty term was also used on board our ship when the cooks made us battle lunches. However our cooks made killer battle lunches. Ours was fried chicken, biscuits, boiled eggs, and drinks. I had heard some commands went back to the standard cold cuts for battle lunches. We only had a battle lunch during training, so things were a little more open. Also since the cooks knew they needed to make lunch for use they did it all ahead of time.
