Ship History
The USS Whidbey Island (LSD-41) is a Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship of the United States Navy. She was named for Whidbey Island, in Puget Sound, Washington, the location of NAS Whidbey Island; the name ultimately derives from the sailor, explorer and engineer Joseph Whidbey.
She was laid down on the 4th of August 1981, by the Lockheed Shipbuilding, and launched on 10 June 1983. The USS Whidbey Island was sponsored by Mrs. Sally Gorton, wife of Senator Slade Gorton and commissioned on 9 February 1985, with Commander P.M. Muldoon in command.

Wacky! Man, I'm so happy to see all of this weirdo stuff coming out. Years ago, I would have never thought dock ships and such would get me excited, but wow, I'm digging it!

Seeing the dates, here we are in April 2009, the molds were already made quite a while ago, so that's not a problem, the portable heater in the background of the ship picture is not good, love seeing some older resin models coming out, but with a company that can!
