Dynamited Chicken
  • navywordoftheday
Although the official listing for this is either Chicken ala king or Chicken Cacciatore, I would say this covers just about any chicken dish, other than fried chicken. Chicken is used in so many dishes in the Navy that some people know the reason everything tastes like chicken, because that seems to be the only thing you eat.

During boot camp they made dishes out of chicken that you would never think was possible. Chicken Ala King, Chicken Cacciatore, BBQ Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and so on. I think we had chicken for two weeks straight during boot camp.

Then we had the other staple of the Navy, sliders, and straight back to chicken.
It is amazing how many dishes can be made with chicken. The cooks seemed to have one whole freezer filled with nothing but whole chickens. They would spend the morning and afternoon chopping these whole birds into quarters. Then at dinner these freshly cooked bird sections were slopped onto the trays of starving boot campers. It seemed every day I would get a leg and thigh. I would prefer the have a breast and wing section, but hardly ever got that.

Chicken is a fairly easy dish to make and this is why it is so popular with Navy cooks. Also since to will take on different flavors rather it also makes it easy to use. But in reality, it all tends to run together and really just be blah in the end.
