This is a card game played onboard ship. Most of the time it is said the game was invented by snipes, however I think it was somebody in ops who invented it.

It is a trump based game played with 2-4 players. It can be played with more. Each player is dealt a card(s). The last card is then turned up, that is trump for that hand. Each player then calls how many tricks they will get based on trump. The game is played just like Spades from that point on. Trump is beats anything, the higher card in off suit wins, the trick taker leads.

But, the trick of the game is to bid correctly. If you bid 3 only take 3. Taking more give you more points, which is bad.

The cards are dealt in the following sequence to each player. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. This is how many cards each player gets per hand. The game is addictive, easy to learn, and fun.

Plus the scoring is easy. 3 points for making your tricks you bid on, 1 point for each extra, and 3 x your bid if you do not make it.

Many people might know this game by many different names. I actually first played it after I got out of the Navy. My brother first introduced it to me as “OH No!”

Give it a try next time at a family gathering or even at your poker night. It is a hoot!
