Cinderella Liberty
  • navywordoftheday
Get back to the ship by midnight or POOF!!! You turn into a pumpkin. Well, not a pumpkin, but you do get in trouble.

Some ships have this type of liberty for different paygrads of sailors. E1 to E3 might have to be beack by midnight, E4 and E5 back by 1:00 am, E6 2:00am, E7 above and officers by 3:00am.

When I first reported to A school we had Cindy C which meant we could be back at 1:00 am, Cindy B was at midnight, and Cindy A was 11:00 pm. The only thing worse than the last one was total restriction.

Commands do this to try and prevent problems. Most of the time the later a sailor stays out in town the drunker they get. So the Cinderella liberty system is put in place to prevent this.

My ship never did have such a system. In Egypt we did have to leave the ship in pairs and sign out, but otherwise we could stay out as late as we wanted. There really wasn’t much to see or do in our little BFE port, so we were back onboard by midnight most nights. However if you wanted to call home that might make you stay out late, 8 hours time difference.
