Aoshima have just announced another great kitset release in its Waterline 1/700th range 1/700 Japanese Navy Destroyer Hatsushimo.

This looks to be another great “waterline" 1/700 IJN kitset.

The date of release is the end of January 2009 and price has been announced as 800 yen.

Watch out for a further update on these items as more information and images come to hand

Ship History
Hatsushimo was a Hatsuharu-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Her name means "First Frost of Season".

On the 30th of July 1945, while maneuvering under air attack by Task Force 38 in Miyatsu Bay, Hatsushimo struck a mine and sank 12 miles west-northwest of Maizuru, Kyoto. She was the last Japanese destroyer sunk in World War II.

I assume this are new molds and not re-releases from old Waterline series? Is the quality of the “newer” waterline releases better than the old ones, which usually run half the price?

It makes myself wonder for that cheap of a price if its a new release? If it is this is very good news. I wish they would release an accurate Shiratsuyu instead. The Tamiya one is very outdated and has its issues.
