Point Luck
  • navywordoftheday
US planners had a very good indication of where and when the attack on Midway would come. They needed to set a point where the two different carrier groups could rendezvous. Enterprise and Hornet would leave before Yorktown was out of dry dock. US planners were still not 100% sure the target was Midway, but they needed to pick the best possible spot. The spot was called, “Point Luck”

The point was north east of the atoll and it was hopped this would put the American carriers in the perfect surprise spot to attack the Japanese fleet attacking Midway. The American battle groups met and set to the business of finding the Japanese fleet.

It is said the point was named simply because at the point in the war the US was they needed every break they could get.
