Saratoga
This is another name that follows the history of the US Navy from its beginnings until present day. The ships are named for the Revolutionary War Battle of Saratoga. There were 6 ships named for this battle to serve in the Navy. Starting in 1780 there was a small 18-gun sloop. This ship was lost at the sea the following year.

The next Sara was a corvette built on Lake Champlain. She severed during the War of 1812 and fought in the Battle of Lake Champlain. The next was a sloop-of-war built in 1843 and served until 1888. As the Navy moved into the “New Navy” Saratoga was there as well. ARC-2 was originally named New York, but had her named changed to Saratoga. She was a protected cruiser and would later be renamed again and reclassed to the Cruiser Rochester.

Saratoga was to be used to name one of the Navies newest battle cruisers, but treaty limitations saw he rebuilt into the third aircraft carrier for the US Navy. She served the war and was used as a target during the 1946 atomic bomb tests at Bikini. Today she is one of two divable carrier wrecks.

CV-60 was the last active duty Saratoga for the US Navy. She sailed the oceans for 42 years before being decommissioned in 1994. I saw her a few different times at sea and in port during operations off the east coast in 1991.

Another Sara was USAT Saratoga a transport ship used by the Army during World War I. Then we also has those possible Sara’s of the future, NCC31911 USS Saratoga a type three Miranda class Starship that is lost during the Battle of Wolf 359. Finally there is the USS Saratoga SCVN2812 from the show, Space: Above and Beyond.
