BlueJacket Shipcrafters have just announced that they are offering a 24 Hour Wooden Boat Modelling course.

This course is being offered in conjunction with Fiber Arts College and the Penobscot Marine Museum and will take place between Thursday, 9th September and Sunday, the 12th of September 2010. We understand that there is a limit of only 12 participants.

The classes will be conducted by internationally known modeller Dr. Al Ross, and take place at the Penobscot Marine Museum, Searsport, ME.

We understand that the course is designed to teach the basics of wooden boat modelling, and is appropriate for all skill levels, including those with no prior experience.

The modeling subject for the course will be the Yankee Hero, an 1889 Maine fishing sloop designed to transport sardines to processing plants. The Yankee Hero was an actual boat whose model is in the National Watercraft Collection of the Smithsonian.

The cost for the entire four day course, including all materials-instruction manual, full sized plans, boat hull, fittings, rigging, paint, glue, and all necessary tools-is US$250.00 (+$25.00 registration). The modeler will own the tools and supplies as a start for their own modeling toolbox.

BlueJacket Shipcrafters have requested all those interested to please contact either Suzi or Jeff Marger (1-800-448-5567) for further information, registration, housing availability, etc.

great news; the Mystic Seaport (northern CT, USA) used to run similar courses, also for 1:1 scale small craft building. Unfortunately, they don't offer courses anymore (at least as of couple years ago). Hope they do more; thanks for posting!
