Aoshima checks in with the newsroom with two interesting upcoming releases in 1/700 scale. Originally laid down as training cruisers, the Katori and Kashima, both of the Katori class, carried an interesting hodge-podge of 6" and 5" guns, and a mixed powerplant of steam boilers and diesels.
For those IJN fans that are looking for a unique subject to build, these two kits should fit the bill. Each kit should retail for around $26.00 USD. Release date is set for July of 2011.

Kashima 018 My little offering of quite possibly the shortest light cruiser of WW2, this is from Fujimi, there doesn't seem a lot of difference between the two producers, in fact they look like a copy of each-other, which is a shame because I thought a new tool model was on its way. Looking at the bridge and supporting uprights, all of which honestly could use replacing, are also the same. Let the buyer beware, I've been caught a couple of times in the past, as some old tool models are now for sale in ''new'' box art which tends to throw a spanner in the works, there are of course some new tool models out there, and strangest of all, they are rather hard to spot, hence me getting caught out. The IJN Nagato is worth its weight in gold. As for this model, it does look very like a very old model simply re-released.
