Introduction

Veteran Model releases a set of 10 triple Type 96 25mm AA guns for 350th scale IJN ships. This multi-media set includes resin components and a photo-etch fret.

inside the box...

Three resin parts make up the bulk of these guns. The gun assembly includes the 25mm guns, the recoil cylinders, the fifteen round magazines and the recoil guards which are impressively hollowed out. The second part is the base mount. A third, undescribed resin piece is provided, which is mounted at the front of the combined base and gun assembly, it appears to be a shield in between the gun and the base.

The remainder of the assembly requires careful photo-etch folding. The right side rotating (pointer) wheel is comprised of two photo-etch parts with a combined five bends in about a 4mm space. This assembly attaches to the mounting base. The left side range elevating dial is one piece photo-etch, with four folds which attaches to the mounting base. The remainder of the photo-etch rounds off the details. Included are shields for both the range and the pointer operator, seats for both operators, trainer's gun sight and pointer's gun sight.

Assembly is straight forward, but with a model this small, a great deal of patience will be required. This set of ten guns will fit any of the current crop of 350th scale IJN ships and is a must if you plan on dressing up your build.

SUMMARY
Highs: Very clean resin, highly detailed. Great deal for what you pay.
Lows: Hard to fault Veteran Model on such a nice replacement set. Some of the finer resin parts are susceptable to breaking and the purchaser should be aware of this potential.
Verdict: Great replacement set for the triple 25mm AA guns. Considering how many of these guns are found throughout most Japanese ships and how good these replacement guns are, Veteran Model should do very well.

Once again a very fine looking set. Check your chosen kit out carefully to get the correct quantity you need.

Ahoy Mates, I ran across this review as well as the one for the 12.7 dual mount from Voyager from Frank. The reason I was searching these out is that I got an E Mail blurb from Internet Hobbies saying that they now carry the line. Curses, yet another reason to go to the dark side for obvious reasons! I ain't gonna admit to how many triples, duals and singles of this caliber that I have gone nuts with Eduards, Toms and Gold Medal Models parts to dress up in 1/700 scale. But these bad boys take all those efforts and make them look quite hollow.
