Thanks Guys,

I like the contrast too, I think you are right bill, I would reckon is was a non slip linoleum, would be right for the period.

Todays update.

One of the issues with old kits in softer plastic is parts dropping off the sprue, one of the secondary turret fell into the void.

After a search, no joy, so scratchbuilding a replacement.

wrap around done, test fitting the roof, not perfect, but nothing that can't be cured.

Gunports cut, and kit guns test fitted.

The replacement along with a kit turret, both with master barrels fitted.

Filled, filed and painted it should blend in.

The kit turrets had a raised square moulded on the back, this has been removed and replaced with some spare etched hatches.

More soon,

Si

On with the secondary armament, the turrets all built

Test fitted in position, only the after pair would need the railings fitting prior to glueing down.

Railings fitted around the aft end of the fo'c's'le deck. These railings are not the GMM fret, but sourced from spares.

After secondary turrets in place.

Railings on the midships walkways, looks like there some more railings to be sources from spares.

Upper bridge platform fitted, along with the base section of the foremast. Instructions need to be followed closely at this point to get everything down in the right order.

The wheelhouse folded to shape.

Some interior fitted to the wheelhouse, spare binnacle fom the kit, wheel and telegraph from the GMM fret.

Now I hit a problem, the wheel house and the after deck house (would assume the Captain's sea cabin) are not the same height.

At least some of the interior in the wheel house shows.

Not rocket science to cure, but disappointing.

Cheers.

Hi Si

Lot's of trials and tribulations with this kit, but it appears you are overcoming them very easily.

Really starting to take shape now

Very odd to see that blue 'post'. Wonder what the Russian navy were thinking when they painted that such an odd colour compared to the rest of the ship?

Looking really nice, good job with the problems of this kit.
This will be a stunner, so well done with this striking paint scheme and the light colored deck.

Hi Russell,

I quite enjoy solving the problems of an ancient kit, and making something of it, but an error like that in a etched set is slightly annoying.

The Instructions give "sea blue" as the colour for the centre section of the masts, as I cannot find anything solid to contradict that, and Zvezda are Russian so I would hope they have that right.

Hi Bernd,

Thank you for your comment, I do like the pre WW1 schemes, they are striking. I have to confess to being a convert to the add on wood decks, they do add something especially when they really contrast the scheme.

Cheers.

Si,

She is coming along splendidly. As I have mentioned before your ability to overcome issues through improvising is something to really watch and learn from.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Dave,

Thanks mate, I just don't like giving up on a model.

The bridge issues, I will probably take a bit off the top f the Captain's sea cabin and add a bit to the top of the wheelhouse, but also check it is nothing else causing the problem.

won't be the first time I have missed something obvious.

Cheers

Si

Isn't amazing how a relatively large piece like that secondary turret can just disappear? You realize don't you that now you've scratch built a replacement the original is going to pop up?

The ship is looking great.

Thanks Rodger,

I know that turret will turn up, but I will bet it is not where it disappeared, this always happens.

I am quite pleased with how she is coming out, considering all the difficulties.

cheers.

I found out why their was a fit issue with the uooer bridge deck, I was using the wrong etched part. Apologies to Loren for suggesting there was an issue with his fret.

The Bridge and after superstructure deck houses.

Test fitted again, this time it works

The wheel house, and after deckhouse, which I think may actually be the chartroom, more likely the Captain's sea cabin is on the deck below, adjacent to the conning tower, fitted to the upper bridge platform.

The after superstructure test fitted as well,

Both forward and aft, the masts are a very tight fit, even after the mould lines have been cleaned up.

More soon.

Si

Thanks Todd,

She is getting there.

Thanks Mark,

Bit of a schoolboy error in the first place though, does prove the old adage about test fitting before applying glue.

Railings and the other 16 47mm today.

As promised, on with the other 16 47mm

Shields and barrels removed.

The new shields added.

Just drilling out and fitting the barrels, but that is for next time.

The upper bridge glued down.

And railings on, just a ladder, binnacle, searchlights and guns to go.

supports going on the after upper deck, although the guns and railings will have to go on before it is glued down.

cheers

Si,

She is looking really good. Glad to see that you figured out what the issue was without having too much trouble.

I do not envy you with the 47mm barrels but then again I do have the 25mm coming up with the Maya soon.

Thanks Dave,

As I said, but of a schoolboy error, but GMM instructions do not have a fret layout on them, whoich would have helped.

Oh and I have straightened out the wonky support leg on the after superstructure.

I must admit I wasn't in the mood yesterday afternoon toi finish those guns off.

Good luck with your 25mm,

Cheers.

On with the 47mm,

I found a useful way of holding them to drill the hole for the gun barrel, gripping tweezers.

The remaining 16 guns ready for painting.

sprayed black,

The breach ends will be touched in with a gunmetal colour.

Test fitting the two vents on the after superstructure, they did need some serious fettling to through the holes.

Where I am at.

The 47mm on the bridge and lower deck of the after superstructure, and the upper deck of the after superstructure in place.

more later.
