Starting on some sub assemblies for the main deck.

The foredeck windlass as per the kit.



The original detail removed leaving just the pedestal and detailed up with thee turned brass and four etched parts, side by side for comparison.

Vents and lockers started, the foremost one has five etched louvres added to it.

The searchlight platforms and director base that sits aft of the boat stowage on the hanger roof.

Moulded detail removed for fitting upgrade parts, and assembled.



Pontos parts fitted and glued in place.

Closer look, they are quite small.



The Foredeck, with the bits fitted, the pontos instructions mix up the numbering of the bits on the placement diagram, but it is obvious.



The central windlass is just test fitted.

Whilst the paint dried, work on one half of the catapult.





Steel deck painted, wood deck fitted and glued down.



Work on the deck detail, brackets for the chain stoppers, and bow plate.

She is really taking shape, and the amount and quality of detail is stunning!!

My workshop will commence work tomorrow, meanwhile catching up with all the great work that has happened here on MSW while I enjoyed my leave...

Small progress today.

Foredeck details get a coat of paint and the anchors are added.



Both sections of the catapult built and test fitted.



The funnel cap has a wash to dull it down a bit.

Today's progress.

The capstans, I used the kit upper wheel instead of the etched replacement, very nicely moulded and more three dimensional.



Painted and in place, along with the anchor cables and fairleads.





Need to find some chain stoppers, should have something in the spares box.

The end gantries for the catapults folded ready for a coat of paint.



The kit signal platform next to the etched origami replacement.

work also going started on the breakwater, so many tiny triangles to add, doing a few at a time.

Impressive work on that signal platform Si!
I am amazed how the walls are two piece i.e. double fold. You've done an excellent job to keep them together.

To be fair the fold at the top is half etched tabs, so it does fold easily.

Even so, I used a dab of Gorilla glue, gel, and clamped the two sided together with needle nosed pliers for about 20 seconds.

All the internal bulkheads and frames are double sided.

Again this is great etch design.

The weekend's progress.

Building the signal platform.









And test fitted.



Needing a bit of a break from tiny etch, the upper bridge components, the only destruction is the removal the integrally moulded equipment, these will be replaced with Veteran models gear.



Assembled and test fitted.



The 37mm gun deck, and bottom part of the conning tower.



Small amount of destruction and assembled.

Jan is certainly doing a great job with The Hood.

If you think of this build as number of sun assemblies it is a lot less scary, aided by the (mostly) well thought out etch and turned brass.

a bit of planning helps too.
