More work on the main directors.

Forward and main directors complete.



After director with it's mast.

Bismarck is looking really good!

Pontos really do think of everything don't they? For the Prinz Eugen I have to scratch brass masts but Pontos are nice enough to even supply the mast for the aft director for you!

I think next time I consider buying another ship model ( if I ever do) I will aim to chose something where Pontos are the AM supplier.

I must admit I am a big fan of Pontos, thee sets might be a touch on the pricey side, but you do get a lot of etch and turned brass for the cash, along with some resin and any wood decking.

Instructions can be a little confusing, especially on the earlier sets.

Another small progress.

The tracks from the hangers to the catapult, well a start anyway!

Non of the books, drawings, or even Pontos instructions are clear on the layout, so this is my best guess.







just over haf way there, and a few more details to go on that area as well.

This weekend's progress.

The Catapult deck completed.



Next job. Boats for the racks either side of the funnel.

The kit parts that will be used, the rest will be from the Pontos set.



A little destruction needs to be done.



Motor boat hull halves together.



etched bottom boards in place.



The thwarts in place on pulling boats.



The 13m launch, engine box, seating and steps in place,



The other thee motor boats, with the interiors painted and the bottom boards given a wash to bring out the details.

I like the work on the ship's boats, the detail is great.

And that's the first time I have seen a ship's boats moulded in in halves, maybe it's a Revell thing.

Must admit I cannot recall any other kits with the boats moulded that way, but it works, allows quite a bit of detail to moulded in place.

So far so good with the etch, all new cabins for the motor launches, props and etc, oars and rudders for the pulling boats.

Looks great! But I wasn't aware that even the small boats are build in hull halves - did they go together well or is much sanding required along the seam??

Good to back at full ahead.

First time I have encountered boats moulded that way, but they halves fitted together quite well, and if I didn't have loads of etch, they would like quite good as supplied, deck, cabin roof and clear windshield parts are supplied in the kit. Even the moulded on props and rudders were rather good, within the limitations of the injection moulded process.

Looking forward to seeing you making progress on the Hood.

This weekend's progress, or the sage of the boats continue.

Etched rudder and prop shaft parts on.



Decks and windscreens done, along with the cabin for 13m boat.



Paint going on, and cabin structure on two of the boats.



Thwarts painted on the pulling boats.



The first pair of pulling boats with the oars and rudders on.



The cabin assembly for the motor boats, the bulkheads and roof are etched in one piece, work better if cut into three sections.



Roof cabin assemblies on the motor boats nearly there (few adjustments needed.



The first boats on!



Lashing still to be done, but getting there.

Today's progress.

Lashings on the pulling boats.



Motor boats finished.



First motor boat on, only thing, the 13m launch doesn't fit in it's slot, could be the cradles aren't quite in right, or the additional detail on the funnel isn't tight enough, anyway one of the fast launches fitted instead.



next problem, I didn't read the instructions or the drawings carefully enough and fitted the outer cradles too high. Rather than try to remove and refit, I went with where they were.



The 13m launch fits ok in the outer cradles. didn't notice the gap in the roof on the fast boat till is saw the pics, will have to try and fix that,



and tidy up some paint jobs!

Bismarck up to speed again, I wish I could say that from my shipyard...

Very nice work Si and a pretty good way to overcome the fitting issues with the boats and their respective cradles. That always seems to be a problem, I can hardly remember a model where the launches really fit into their places...
