I know I have a lot going on at the moment, but we have a competition in September "Flora and Fauna" and I have nothing built for it.
I picked HMS Violet for two reasons, firstly her camouflage, and secondly her powerful (well by corvette standards) AA armament, 6 x 20mm.
I am using the Mirage HMS Pennywort as the basis.
The kit parts with the WEM fret.
The parts look a little crude on the fret, but the kit does build up quite well.
One bit od poor detail is the watertight doors under the break of the fo'c'c'le. Having rummaged though all my spare frets I could find no etched doors to fit, so I will live with them.
A slot cut in the stern for the paravane and the hull and main deck together
A small start, but a start.
More soon.
Si.

Well, Si, I'm on board here as well
Always had an interest in adding one of these to the stash, so will be interesting to see how it builds up!
OMG I envy your bench time allowance! SWMBO'd has very stern opinions on the amount of time I spend at the bench

The Mirrage kit is actually quite good, and with the WEM PE you're good to go. The WEM set actually holds enough parts for (almost) completing two ships, if you choose the different bridge confirgurations.
I really look forward to see your build.

Thanks Guys
Mrs Duster is very generous about workshop time, as long as I have done my chores. and of course it tends to be concentrated into weekends, and Bank Holidays. This means I don't like twiddling my thumbs whilst paint or glue dries, there four things on the go is optimum.
Very glad to have all of you along for the ride.
This is quite a conversion, not only the gun tubs, (Have some spares on the Repulse Sprues), the bridge looks like an open version of the early extended platform, and has a hedgehog on a raised mounting in front of it.
As Jacob says it is quite a nice kit, and plenty of etch from WEM
Cheers

A little more progress today.
There are some areas of wood cladding on the Corvette's deck, and no off the shelf add on, so the left overs from HMs Tiger's deck are being pit into service.
A section cut out.
unwanted deck detail removed, and a hole cut for the base of the windlass.
The other foredeck detail will be added over the top. (I did have a slight issue on the port side, but that can be fixed when the deck is fixed down.
Halfords red primer, a base coat and the anti fouling.
Somewhat later in the day, the anti fouling masked.
The 507C sprayed on and masking removed, next job, the camo.

Nice work on the camouflage pattern, Si!
And the XF 18 looks pretty good - actually, XF 18 is pretty close to RN B5. I found that out a little late - I had already mixed a good jar of paint by constantly adding a litte here and there to get it closer to the paint chips' color, when I needed it for my HMS Prince of Wales some years ago. At the end I found out how close to XF 18 I had ended up... So I decided to use that one jar, and for the next major project that will need B5 I will go straight with XF 18.
Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan,
Was pleased with the colour, it did look right to me. I only had the picture in the book to go by and that unusually for the captions did not name the colour, so you have solved that one for me,
Cheers

Today's progress.
More work on the brass bridge.
wind deflectors and base of radar lantern on.
Lower bridge and funnel casing put together.
Removing the 20mm bases from the kit bridge.
fitted into the etched bridge along with the radar lantern.
funnel cap drilled out and etched grill fitted along with the railings around the lower casing, the WEM railings are for the earlier kits in this series, so the lower set needed a little adaption, the upper I=ones will need replacement.
The bridge supports fitted and the whole thing test fitted in place.
Cheers

Thanks Michael,
It is White Ensign at their best, The base kit is good in itself, but the WEM set not only adds fine detail butgives a number of conversion options.
(Trust me to find one that is not fully catered for )
Cheers Si
