The Ships at ScaleModelWorld 2008

Jim Baumann did it again!
Jim Baumann's 1/350 Regia Marina Roma won Best Of Show! For two years in a row, Jim took this prize home and the recognition that ship modeling is a great area of modeling!

Also, Mike McCabe won Best Diorama with his 1/700 Gnydia Harbor Diorama (amongst other prizes too!). An excellent piece of craftsmanship and ideas put on a small area!

Amongst many stands and displays, again this year, The German Gamblers won the Best Foreign Display Award!

To both Jim, Mike and the German Gamblers Team, and all winners and participants in the Contest, Branches and SIG tables I would like to, in my name and also on behalf of MSW, give a BIG THANK YOU for all excellency shown throughout this modeling event!

Again, this was the chance to speak with the great persons that we have been "talking" all year and meet new artists and great modelers. In no particular order, Jim Baumann, Mike McCabe, Peter Fulgoney, Rob Kernaghan, Roy Allen, Jacques Druel, Guido Hopp, Frank Spar, Frank Ilse, Christian Bruer and Dirk Mennike (The German Gamblers Team), David Griffith, Andy UK, Dave Wooley, our own Jim Smith (Freighter) and Shaun Symonds (muddyfields) amongst many other British Bulldogs and other modelers and vendors, made the trip and all the mishaps of the trip to Telford completely gone!

Start planning your entries for SMW 2009, but before that, here is the ship photo report for this year event.
I would like to apologize for the poor quality of some photos, but glass/acrylic protective cases and poor lighting of the facilities makes good photography a little difficult...
Enjoy!

Can't agree enough, I think we should close the doors for one day to allow those manning stands to do some shopping and have a look around, I had a couple of hours on sunday to do that but otherwise hardly at all. Still quibbles aside it was a great show and meeting old friends was reason enough. Brilliant Gamblers stand and superb job by Rui of getting around and seeing everything Mike

You try spending weeks building and rigging a ship only to have somebody lean over and knock off the masts and rigging you have worked so hard on. If you really want to take a photo you can always ask, I would never submit my models to the carelessness of some people at model shows. Mike[/quote] Yes, I have to agree with Mike, and if I can attend SMW09, I will take my models with display cases. This year I caught some "flak" on one of my models, and even if it is easily remade to original form and shape it made me Although the display cases makes photography a difficult job, it really protects the models from prowling hands or eventual misfortunes by coats, scarfs or any other hanging material! We are not looking for our models around the clock, so better safe than sorry Rui
