R.A.S. in Western Pacific 1944

Replenishment At Sea in Western Pacific 1944

The scene shows the Neptun's BB-61 USS Iowa shortly before refueling by AO-22 USS Cimarron, also Neptun, but converted long before the new Neptun version in camouflage, so you can see my older types of radar antennas made of some plastic gauze material. While the USS Cimarron is wearing the measure 32/13T ,the USS Iowa shows her unique two-tone sheme of ocean-gray and dull-black in the Pacific at the beginning of 1944.

Beside the usual additions of radar and mast-details I added some 40 mm Bofors to distinguish from the state of the Neptun version which shows her as completed. Also there is a row of windows under a roof behind the armoured bridge on both sides. Thank you Thomas

Amazing work, once again! Geez, and 1/700 makes my eyes cross! This stuff is amazing, isn't it? Thanks so much to both Thomas Schroeder for the feature, and to Skipper for bringing it to us! ~Gunny

Truly amazing work. I just want to know one thing. Where did he get the trained ants to do the work? :-)

Superb work! I'm struggling with half as much detail in 1/700 scale...

To see some more superbly detailed ships from another modeller, have a look at this model of HMS Warspite

As a young kid I remember getting the ALNAVCO catalog and drooling over the 1200 scale kits I couldn't afford at the time I think they all ran in the $10 area when you could go out and buy the big Revell versions for $4. While with my family in Germany (summer home from college) I remember going into a toy store in Munich and seeintg a ton of the Neptun and other stuff, but I was with some German friends who were in a hurry to be doing something else and I was on their dime. This stuff is remarkablly well detailed for its size. Of course Rui's friend takes it so much further. I especially admire his scenic backdrops as it makes his work look so much more realistic. Fine scale modeler I think has some advertising in it that can direct you to the small scales. There was one company that put out about 2 dozen plastic kits in this scale that were very nicely done. They were inexpesive and included some Italian BB's as well. Sure wish I could find some of those.
