Hi folks,

some pics with the first coat of paint on. Does anyonw know what powered these and how they were operated? There doesn't seem to be any levers on the kit. Hmmm, a crane with no levers very odd.

Also any idea of what might have been underneath, can't seem to find much info on this.

Hi Kenny,

As always thanks for looking. Must get some of your glue and promise not to sue

Cheers

Hi Folks,

A slow day on site today! I have given the crane a coat of grey. Question - Do you think I should go with a fairly clean grey affair or a bit of a rust bucket with the remains of some red and green?

I've fashioned a set of electrics for the rear wall which seems in keeping with the building and opinion has it that it was driven by electrical power. If I decide to ground mount the crane it will still work as some sort of pumping house with a few additions if necessary.

Skipper you've got your white and green, which I think works in this type of building.

I've populated it with a few headless workmen I must get around to finishing to give an idea of scale.

The whole building needs another base coat but I should get the electrics fitted today and perhaps make a start on the steps.

Hey Alan. I think you have just the right amount of rust. I would drybrush some dark silver on the gear teeth though. I think the rust would be the lightest there.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to do a bit more work on the crane after this post. There are still some bits to add and then I need to finish the painting and weathering.

On the building I have re-instated the door , scribed planking on the inside and added the internal electrics. I have a bit if filling arounf the door to do, the whole thing needs to dry well and then I will blend it all in.

I have added, with some blue tec, a vent to the RHS. I don't know if this would be OK or not but I would offer good weathering opportunities on that wall. I'll think on it awhile, any thoughts let me know.

Here's some outside pics. The door is on lead hinges so I can open it up a bit more to give better sight of the interior.

Hi Guys,

well there was a brief break in the rain so I popped outside for a few progress shots. Figs are for scale and not finished and I need to do some more work on the bucket and some oil/greese stains around the cogs.

Commants welcome.

Hi Murdo,

Thanks for calling in. I donl' know how accurate a kit this is but it looks the part and was a lot of fun. It's my 2nd ful resin kit the first being 'Tina' the Tilly.

I'm thinking I should add some sort of number onto the kit (51 lol, lol) on the blank wall that will be facing the sea and a war poster by the door.

The dockers are MB Germans who I think will pass for workmen, anyway they were cheap lol, lol. Not sure if I've got the flat caps right yet. Strange a missing item in the Hornet selection.

Just got the WD number on the Churchill AVRE so I can press on with a bit of weathering and will atttempt to get the dockers looking a bit better.

Just a little blending in left on the crane, the steps are a bit bright and I need some oil or greese around the cogs.

BTW way how's you fleet of 432's coming along. Have I missed any posts on those babies???

Cheers

Hi Dave,

It's certainly taken over mine

I'll post a few updates this evening if the weather holds. Glad you're enjoying it, it's coming together slowly. I have a spare 50 cal with the shield from the LCM3 and want to see what it might look like as an AA tower as the crane could easily stand alone although it's growing on me by the day lol, lol.

Thanks once again for you know what.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

The lights have gone out, and no text is visable but I'll post anyway

Some updates on the crane, better pics of the load and the ground workers. I don't think I'll use the guy on the crane, unless in the Genny Room. I have added a sign to the from of the crane with Bluetec, I though it would look good once weathered in. any thoughts?

Al

Hey Mac, if you want to put the .50 on an AA mount, there's one in a Tamiya figure set and the big ammo chest as well. Might be something to consider, too

Hi Dave,

I have a couple left over from the 2nd LCM 3 that might do the busness.

Here's an alternative for the top of the building. A 50 Cal AA Post. The crane would be ground mounted in a slightly different location. Sort of two for the price of one

Any thoughts

Cheers

Hi Folks,

I wanted to explore this idea a bit further so put some paint onto the 50 cal. For thsi to workk as an Anti Air/Shipping Post obviouslty it would need to be surrounded by sand bags and suitably equipted.

I've done a litttle more work on the deck and added and weathered in the sign a bit.

Some more pics to ponder.

Al

Right folks,

This is it. Only thing left to do is add some greem slime around the base when on the dio and add the operator cable from the junction box.

Thanks for all the feedback folks, time to move on to the next part.

Wow Alan,

Both of them look very good. I like the look of the crane rather than the .50 cal MG.

I have to agree with Kenny on this one. I much prefer the crane

Hi Steve, and Kenny,

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like it's the crane, but I wanted to investigate the other possibility as well.

Perhaps an area for the 50 cals will pop up during the build.

Cheers
