I finished my "Forgotten Sisters" entry, Tamiya's 1/700 HMS REPULSE, and posted pictures in the finished model section. Rich
Very nice, Rich! Very crisp and clean. Congrats on a great build.
I've finally finished masking the deck of my "entry", Wyoming. Hopefully I can break out the airbrush this weekend.

Hey there! Just wondering how everyone is doing on their ships.
I'm finally back to working on my tirpitz, and right now it looks BAD! I decided to prime the whole thing, so it has a white, pastly look to it right now...
But, I did test-fit all of the smaller components, and everything looks like it will be fit together quite well. I'm also thinking about giving it a full hull, for this Group Build, and maybe putting it in some "water" after I have more practice at getting the right effect.
altogether, I'd say I'm 50% done, and will put up some pics (thist might be ugly) soon.

I was planning on getting back on my build this week. I am going to do some minor PE work and add a few other small parts, then start to give her some paint.

I've been getting some things done on my Fletcher Class USS Healy, but because I chose to turn the Tamiya early war round bridge kit in to the late war emergency AA refit square bridge, there's a lot of re-work required. Still an awful lot of stuff to do, but I'm making some progress. I'll try and post some photos in the next week or so. So many other distractions!!!!

Looks good Steve.
Here's where I'm at with Wyoming:
The Ocean Gray is airbrushed on. Next step is to mask and paint the Navy Blue on the hull, then mask and paint the 5L on the superstructure. Still a lot of little parts that have to be painted as well - these were the 'major' parts...

I have completed the 1/350 Trumpeter USS Sullivans DD-537. I used the Gold Metal Models photoetch. Both the kit and the photoetch were very good. This was my first adventure into 1/350 ships and I learned quite a bit. Any configuration or historical errors are mine and not fault of the kits!

Hey guys,
I'd like to post an update, but I have none. All I have been doing is having fits with the Dragon Steyrene parts on my Tirpitz. I stuck the whole thing in a corner of my room, and have just been glaring at for 2 weeks. On the bright side, I have since bought a USS Pittsburgh and HMS Rodney...oh well.
Tonight I am going to buy some different primers and get back at it!
Hope your builds are going better!

greetings,
I hope everyone's sisters are coming along well! Here are 2 pics of my Tirpitz Build.
The first is a photo of the trouble I had with the Dragon kit. the crudely circled areas are the pieces made in the vinal/sterene composite. You can tell the paint is still not dry after a few weeks as the parts are shiny.

The second is a side-by-side of the Dragon and Trumpeter kits, with differences in the structures circled in white. Most interesting is the difference between the two funnel structures. Dragon attaches the out-cropping to the forward superstructure, while Trumpeter attaches it to the funnel. (I have already flipped the top of the funnel around to its correct position). Also, the Trumpeter kit supplies different 10.5cm mounts (obviously a hold-over from the Bismarck kit).

Again, hope your builds are going well and will be done by the extended deadline!

Aye captain. Been spending more time taking care of my parents and filling orders than modeling.

I'm in the middle of a great week at the beach, so no shipbuilding for me until next week! I'm just about at the point where I have nothing left to build and will be moving to painting and finishing.
Still quite a bit left to finish, but being unemployed at the moment does have one advantage
Gonna be close!

Here's an update on the Wyoming:
Navy Blue has been painted over the Ocean Gray on the hull - thanks to Gator for the masks for the Ms12 pattern - so the hull is mostly done. Started adding the 1st level of the superstructure today. I then had to putty around the edges, due to some misadventures with a power sander (note to self: don't use a power sander on 1/700 parts again!). Once that seam is filled and sanded to satisfaction, I'll touch up the paint the on splinter shields and other parts, then start applying the rest of the superstructure. I plan to brush paint the last color of the pattern - Light Gray - by hand. It's too complex to mask and airbrush.
Outside of the 1st level of the superstructure, everything you see here is dryfit, which explains why everything is lopsided! I'm also debating replacing the resin cage mast with a PE version, but haven't gotten that far yet.
More to come...

Ahoy mates!
I finally got some time to sit down and work on my I-401 for the Forgotten Sisters campaign. I'm using Tamiya's 1/350 I-400 kit.
Work on the hull. Launch ramp installed.
More hull work. I drilled out the barrel of the deck gun.
And here is the hanger hull. Since I'm modeling her as she was during the Ulithi Raid, the aircraft are painted silver. The aircraft on the catapult will be complete with US markings.
I also started woking on the aircraft that will be on the catapult. I've started shaving off the canopy and I managed to get some transparency paper formed to make the new canopy.

Thanks Jim. I use Bondo, and auto body spot and glazing putty. You can find it in Walmart in the automotive section. Drys in about 15-20 minutes (depending on how much you slop on), but I usually let it sit at least a day before sanding (still haven't gotten back to it as of today!).

I actually finished the Tirpitz and got the photos up in the Gallery! Horray!
I won't say this was one of my easier builds. I ended up building 1 1/2 kits since I decided to scrap the DML kit half way through and salvaged some of its better pieces for the Trumpeter kit.
But, I did have lots of fun and learned a lot! since I started this campaign I watched video on the Tirpitz and read 3 books on the Tirpitz / Kriegsmarine. Plus, I got a lot more excited about ship modeling. Since January, I have bought the USS Cleveland, USS Pittsburgh, HMS Rodney, German Z-Class Destroyer, and the USS Pennsylvania. So, I'm taking a week off to recover from paint and glue fumes, then hitting the workbench again! Thanks for hosting this group build!

Great to here that steve. I myself had to scrap plans to enter my gato in a contest in sept, i decided to slow down since some of the results I was getting didnt look good to me because I was rushing the build. It's good to here your getting the modeling bug again.

Best I could do was to get the I-401 primed. I still have the aircraft and crew to complete.
