Very nice scratch building in this build.

Frank to Rui... Frank to Rui...
I'm going through some serious Unyo withdrawal symptoms, please post more updates of your fine build before my condition worsens!

Ok guys - a very small update:
Have glued the second deck plate underneath, so that the flight deck would have more stability.
Also have cut out the wind deflector area, and started to apply perforated bars PE bits - from LionRoar. Great stuff but very hard to keep in place! I am using the 0.5 mm bits for this area.
Have made the curved area of the deck - you can see it clearly on the first image (deck only placed on the hull - not glued)
Deck detail

Overall view of what is made so far:

Camouflage deck scheme:

Comments/critics are most welcome

Well done Rui,

thanks for the update

Nice photos indeed Rui and a very nice meeting as well from the "Fellowship of Camouflage". Though a small correction for my ship...I have the Deutschland indeed and plan to build him one day with the Spanish Civil War markings, however, the ship I am building now, due to the camo ship demand of the "Fellowship" is the Graf Spee!!!!!

Great bit of work Rui!
You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but this is the first I've ever heard of a DKM Deutschland carrier. You'll have to give me a bit of a history lesson.
It's a shame this 'fellowship' is founded in Portugal, as I have a very colourful carrier I've been working on...
Frank

SELF EDIT: Just saw the correction, ignore the question.

No need to appologise!!! The correction was only to say that it was not Deutschland but the Graf Spee otherwise it wouldn't be fair for the other fellows for building ships with more complex camo schemes. Deutschland haves no camo scheme other then the ID marks but Spee haves a very daring modelling skill camo scheme!!!!!

Right, back to finish sanding that deck!!! Photos will be posted of the progress in the next few days!!!

If you want you can join in Frank!
This was our way of showing here in Portugal that ships just don't need to be dull

As you know, you are most welcome to join in, and show to the World Ship Modelers Community that ships don't need to be dull!!!!!

Thanks Rui,... for creating another distraction! I'd love to join in, but this is your thread and, to be honest, I'm very intimidated by the talent of all three of you modellers... mine would only pale in comparison! So I'll leave this thread to the three Portuguese wonders!

By the way this is my half completed Unryu from PitRoad, I've just received the dedicated P.E. from HLJ,. and to be honest, I'm not too thrilled at the selection and the quality of the etch.

Hi Frank
I also have the Unryu, and the PitRoad dedicated PE set.
It was my first carrier model, attracted by the "weird" camo scheme - it is still in the stash and I must say that was one of the options for this group built (as was the Chiyoda, the HMS Nelson, USS Sangamon amongst many others )
 )
I think that the Unryu model is very good, specially if compared with my Unyo, but it still has room for improvements (again it depends on the modeler, and I know you would go further than out of the box).
As for the thread owner... not exactly!

And what about your Ryujo??
Cheers
Rui
EDIT: Note on the deck camouflaged decal on the Unryu: wrong colours!!! So, you have to paint them!

The Ryujo and the Abukuma are sitting in drydock... which is never a good thing in my world. I told myself that for the 4 days I'm home, I'd work on the 350th Nagato.... so far I've worked on the Yamashiro and the Unryu... so much for well laid out plans.

and the last update for today:
Gutter PE parts applied to starboard side of the flight deck (except the curve part at the stern) and partially at the port side.
Also the windbreaker (or windscreen) fixed in place - not definitely just to see how it will look (couldn't resist!). This came from Tom's Modelworks IJN Carriers B set.

Somehow that sounds familiar to me as well...I guess we should ask the model companies we bought these models from our money back since we aren't using almost any of the original parts....arggghhhhh!!!

Hi Filipe

We are only keeping those parts unused, because we want to

But a fair discount would be nice

Keep us posted on your progress on the Graf Spee

Wonderful looking work so far Rui. Bet she is really going to pop when the flight deck is painted.
Seeing work like this makes me wanna get out my only carrier and strat working on her.

Thanks Jim - at least I am doing something right
If you feel like it, go for it
Well, this is another small update:
Had enough of gutter PE parts so I needed another incentive

So I attacked the two bow triple AA gun tubs with evergreen, brass strip and also lionroar anti skid plate and triangular perforated braces (triangles), and also the stern AA platform - same method as bow tubs.
They are NOT fixed - just to get the feeling of the parts.

Also have placed the deck searchlight covers (near rear elevator). I need to find a way of bending the gutter PE parts to the curved deck - perhaps making a few cuts on the vertical side (these small PE parts make a 90º angle)... any thoughts?
Some more small details added to forecastle and stern decks... but not that many.
Comments/critics welcome,
Rui
