Hi Rui

Fantastic, clean work,... and all in 700th scale!

[quote] I need to find a way of bending the gutter PE parts to the curved deck - perhaps making a few cuts on the vertical side (these small PE parts make a 90º angle)... any thoughts?[quote]

To be honest Rui,... it's obvious you are using obscure detailed references!! (yes... I'm very envious ) and I doubt that anyone in their right mind would ever question you on your modifications, or your methodology.... with that said good luck in getting a response to the above question!

keep up the excellent work,

Hi Frank

Actually, I didn't receive any tips, but I guess that this could work
As for the references, since the start I receive a few more and I can say that most of them are not obscure, but one is
Thanks for the support...
Progress update asap,
Rui

Skip, great build so far! I also want to thank you for taking so many WIP pictures and explain your steps.... I have learned quite a bit from this build, just reading your progress and looking at the pics! Thanks!

Hi Guys

Small update, this time with some references that I am using, amongst others dedicated to IJN Carriers, but that don't depict the Taiyo Class CVE's.

Added PE chain

Added the hangar back door two levels (port and starboard)

Started to add the perforated bars bellow the flight deck - the area where they get out of the flight deck and are supposed to have the landing signal lights...

And here are my references (hope this helps Frank):

And although, there's no Taiyo, Unyo or Chuyio here, this is a great reference for any interested in IJN Carriers, or just excellent models in general:

Comments/Critics most welcome
Cheers,
Rui

Looking awesome Rui!

Frank, if you can get me a scan of the camo sheet and a length of the kit's flight deck, I can make a mask for the flight deck. I send you a free "/review copy" for your trouble.

Hi Kenny,

I'll do one better, P.M. me your address and I'll send you the colour insert from the Unryu as well as the measurements to the flight deck. If you're interested, I'll also send you the back of the Chitose CV box with the colour camo scheme from PitRoad.

Hi Rui,

For good or bad... you've managed to convince me that I should be on the look out for reference material. I have 6 IJN CGI books on order from HLJ and have made an effort to pick up any old issues of Model Art. Last weekend at the Buffalo NY show , I found issues 18, 25 and 26, quite the find, as our local shops don't tend to carry them.

References are important (to me)! But now I know why I haven't seen much Taiyo's Class CVE builds... there are only four / five photos per ship of the class, most of them far away and blurred... So some of the details are "common" details from other CVE's and CV's. I know I am taking a risk, but...
You can always make a subscription directly to ModelArt or buy it from HLJ
It's too bad that ModelArt don't make an english translation issue (or at least more than the title / name of the article)

Cheers,
Rui

Hi Bruce

That is a great tool - but currently I don't have a scanner, and I must confess that I cherish all my ModelArt waterlien series magazines TOO MUCH! I have them since #1
On the other hand - it's stupid to have this knowledge and miss it - I have to think it over
Thanks for your input

Hi Rui,

I seem to be suffering from another bout of Unyo withdrawal.... posting a few progress photos should alleviate my current flareup....

Hi Frank and the rest of the members who have been following this project...

My Unyo model was "sacrificed" to show the "work in progress" on the exhibition "Other Navies, Other Perspectives", so I will only get to lay my hands on it, next November
But it's for a good cause

Holla Alberto

Gracias! I think that this model as it is now, can clearly show that the interested ship modeler, study, work and tries to enhance and make the model more accurate - not only attaching the parts and painting the model.
Thank you for your comments

Awesome work Rui! I don't think I 'll go into the detail you have done but you have given me a few ideas for the Chuyo I have. Thanks, and I look forward to seeing this build more in November when you start work on it again.

Rui, have you been able to work on this kit lately? I'm really looking forward to an update. I got the Chuyo version and I'm really scared of it. It is going to take alot of work it is such an aweful kit. I'm hopeing if you got plans or photos of this class you would be willing to share them or at least pick your brain as to what I need to do to help it.

Hi Anthony

No, not yet! It is still in the Museum expo Other Navies, Other Views.

It will end on this sunday and I will pick up my models on Monday, so, sooner or later I will get back to it!
Thanks for your interest
