Sorry, Richard!
Got it mixed up! I hope you can come up with some solution for the numbers! A bit of washing and dry brushing will greatly advance the kit and are actually not that hard to do!

I've had that problem as well, Keith, where you go to put the final touches on, and the decals fall apart in the water. You try to do it in short lengths but they never quite match up.

I've got to the point where I hardly ever use decals - especially those white lines on aircraft carriers. Instead I use a white pencil, and straight edge or other constant edge. It gives you a chance to build up the line or fade it as you wish. The result is very good, and looks less assertive than decals - good luck, but give it a try.

BTW for reference see my "rassing dio" - HMS Biter, and HMS Obdurate which features the method.

Keith, I love what you've done with this build so far. You've made me interested in getting this kit myself at some point thanks to your great presentation. She's going into the homestretch and looking great!

Hey Keith - sorry took me a bit to get here to comment..

I think if you have a mishap, you may be allowed to use spares or SB a bit?

How about using "school" type stencils for the numbers? Sold in art supply stores, may have the number at the scale you need.

Or maybe get a scan of the decals and trace the outline, fill in with white? I dont have that one in my stash, but have the Dragon HMS Invincible, maybe the markings are similar enough?

I can scan my decal sheet and email it to you as a PDF file, if its ok with the judges and helps you!

Cheers

Even with wardrobe problems, that's a handsome build, Keith, and you should be proud to have kept up a very long campaign.

Cheers,

I,ve managed to solve some of the decal problems with the help and advice given by some of you verey helpfull gentelmen.the name plate has been cut from the instruction sheet
The deck warninig markings have been done with the help of some fine tip pens and pencils.

I,ve also added some wheathering with thin washes of valleo smoke just round the raised details with this being my first 1/700 ship it has been a steep learning curve but will be trying more soon

Hi Keith

I am glad you stuck in there and got this far. Really nice to see you getting back on it even with the problems.

I would have liked to have thought that if the decals are so bad then any judge would have been able to get past the fact that you have to improvize to overcome the shortcomings of the kit.

After all white lining with a pencil or paint should hardly count as deviation since it is the parts that failed. You used what was in the box.

But hey,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, having never had the courage to subject my work to the scrutiny of the judges at competitions I suppose I would have to look so close at the rule books (Which I am sure all the Judges know cover to cover) before I could say if that disqualified the kit!

Any Judges able to comment on the rights and wrongs of OOB rules?

Your build gets my vote for sure Keith.
