I have found my new favorite ship. I'm reading "Castles of Steel" and I was looking at photos of the various WW1 ships and I came across the HMS Agincourt. She's a real beauty. Fourteen 12" guns and fully capable of firing a full broadside. Wow!

This is what I'm building for the World War 1 campaign.

I just ordered the Combrig Agincourt 1916 kit from Pacific Front Hobbies. She may not have had the most modern naval rifles, but man, fourteen 12 inchers. Geez. I would hate to be on the receiving end of a broadside.

I need to decide which one I am going to build for this campaign.
I might go with the SMS Emden. Or a ship yet to be named.
BTW, excellent choice!

hello Kenny,
nice choice for the campaign.i have been leaning towards the Austro-Hungarian ships over at Pacific Front, but i do not know anything about the company that makes them.
looks like this campaign will have alot of great models in the campaign gallery.
cheers,

Hi Kenny,
Whew! For a moment there I thought Mrs. Gator may have had a problem, then I realized you were in "Nautical Mode"

Yeah, that would have been a rather impressive broadside on either end of the barrels.
Looking forward to your build and progress shots on this one, full steam ahead!

I think I have to agree with you on that one Kenny. I have always thought the Agincourt to be one of the gorgeous BB's I am also rather fond of the German Bayern. I at one time had 4 or 5 of those 1200 scale WW 1 ships I got from ALNAVCO back in the 70's. Then the plastic 700 stuff started coming out and it was largr and more detailed and CHEAPER!!!!!

I got an email from Bill Gruner today saying that my Agincourt will be delayed for a few weeks till he gets some more in from Combrig.

Hi Kenny!
At least that could give you more time for research.

Do you have a copy of R. A. Burt's "British Battleships of World War One"?

No I don't. I did a search for it and Amazon had it for $470.00. I think I'll stick with the internet.

Hi Kenny,
We can't both build the Agincourt!... Not to worry though, this has given me the incentive to place another order with Bill, I'm picking up the HMS Erin and the HMS Inflexible, hopefully Bill will have them in stock. I still plan on building the Gin Palace, maybe now I can start it earlier and use it as a test bed of sorts to tackle the Erin. These will be my first resin ships I build, talk about jumping into the deep end.
P.S. Did you pick up the NNT 12" barrels to go along with the Agincourt, it's a shame Bill doesn't sell the barrels individually, as the set has 12 and the Gin Palace needs 14.

Hey Frank,
I was planning on getting the barrels. I'm still going to get the Iron Duke. I'll build it for the campaign so you can build the Agincourt..

Hi Kenny!
If there is a secure mailing address for you, I can send a copy of the entire section on the Agincourt from Burt's book.

I'm uncomfortable with transmitting a scan.

She has seven turrets. 2 forward, 3 amidships, 2 aft.
The turrets were named for the days of the week.

Bill from Pacific Front hobbies called and confirmed the following kits for me.
HMS Erin, HMS Inflexible and HMS Monarch. Add to this the Agincourt and the Dreadnought which I already have and presto!... plenty of choices for the WW1 campaign.

Wow, that's quite a collection there, Frank! I'm still in the planning stages and haven't bought a single kit yet. It'll probably be some last minute thing as always with me.

I complain about my current work schedule,... but it does allow me to go on the odd spending spree!
Bill Gruner did mention to me that they are getting in a 'large' Combrig order in a couple of weeks, and should have a shipment of NNT turned barrels as well. A great opportunity for undecided folks to pick up a campaign build (or two).

I have a few Combrig kits on my list from Pac Front to get.
Navarin is on the top of my list. 4 funnels in a box arrangement. Sweet looking Battlewagon. Also the French Henri IV, just a neat looking ship.
I spend a free moment every now and again just going over each kit there. Ahhh, joys of kit shopping.

My Iron Duke will ship out Monday. I'll need to wait to order the NNT barrels for her. There is something beautiful about the lines of a WW1 battleship and the uncluttered deck.
On a side note, I'm to the point in "Castles of Steel" when Jutland was fought. While the losses to the British battle cruisers cataclysmic, the High Seas Fleet really took a beating. It doesn't surprise me that the German ships took such a pounding but refused to sink. Reminds me of the Bismarck's encounter with the Home Fleet.
