Hi gents,
Mr. Schatton was very busy to produce a new accessory for our S-100-type s-boat: a socalled "Reissboje", a special weapon to destroy allied mine clearing advices.
I think, his mines were not useful for an S-100, but for S-38 types. Now this Reissboje will be very recommended:

look at the pic in the Squadron-book, page 45 / bottom left; thats the rear of the 2mm twin from HaJü and Lang: here the ready 20mm clips are mounted directly to the gun shield. Maybe on other boats other versions were mounted, but for HaJü and Lang it's clear.

Excellent pictures, many thanks! More bending and scratching (sounds like me getting up in the morning) ahead of me I guess I assembled both the kit mine rails and the Cammett depth charges this afternoon. The Cammett set is excellent - very easy to assemble. I believe that I will fill all the holes and paint both sets - then use white glue to affix the Cammett set, despite the apparent inaccuracy because it looks so nice sitting there. But, if a decent set of mines comes along I can pull them off and install the kit mine rails.
Michael - were the machine guns MG42s, MG34s or MG81s (from Luft. aircraft using the dual drums)? Or is the answer whatever was available - just like the PT boats in the Pacific? I did pull off the wide ammo holders and made a set of narrower ones - I just need to decide if I want to put single cans or dual cans there.

Hi Chris,
the german MG15 (regular an aircraftweapon, but later in the war the Luftwaffe needs heavier machine guns and they were replaced; some were rebuilt as infantry weapens with bipod and shoulder butt attachment), MG34 and MG42 are able to use the double-drum containing 75 rounds total; ammunition was fed by a spring forced spiral, not by a belt inside!
I havn't found the real dimensions of the double drum but I think, they will be suitable to the S-boats racks on the bridge walls and near the torpedo tubes.
This racks are too narrow for 250 rounds ammo boxes and too wide for the single drums containing 50 rounds. So the double drums are a good answer to our difficulties.
Till now I havn't found double drums in 1:35, maybe some MG-set encloses them?

I just ordered 2 of the Tamiya German weapons set (3511) - they are inexpensive and have a tripod mounted MG34 which I will modify. There are drum mags included and I will modify a couple to the dual configuration to at least have a couple in the holders. I am hoping that Quickboost will release a detail set for the Revell of Germany 1/32 JU-88 that may include the drums - or borrow some from a frien who has the kit now.

Giving a closer look to the pic Julian posted earlier, it looks to me -- at first sight -- that the shape of the rectangle box that projects outside the hull (A), if I take into account the slight perspective, rather than to be simply flat as represented on your piccies on page 12, had a more likely sloping sides shape (B). But again, it is only a personal feeling as I have no further detail concerning this piece. Hope it helps...

My first test about the mine.
The Cammett resin is very good, and thanks for Robert for his post in The colleurs de plastique.

I alter the base of the mine in order to ajust on curved rails, narrower than those in Italeri kit.

I dont' know if this is realist, what do you think of my try ?

Hi Joel,
nice mine, but don't "correct" the width of the mines wheels! You will never find an s-boat with more than 6 of those EMCtype mine - each with a weight of 1,135 kg and therefore a total weight of 6,810 kg!! Enough for an s-boats stern, I think!
So there was no cause to use longer rails to store more EMCs. I believe, there's only one conclusion to change the short rails with the narrow and longer ones: They needed more space for another type of mine, which was used very often on sorties with the S-100-type: the LMB (Luftmine Typ B); a mine of Luftwaffe-origin with a longer, cigar-shaped body. The LMB-body was also smaller in diameter as the ball-shaped EMC - due to the need of a lower aerodynamic resistance, when used as a bomber payload. And only the LMBs needed that type of narrow and long rails!
So, please don't deform your EMCs to adapt them to the narrow rails! Use your EMCs on the Italeri-rails - perhaps a mix of 4 EMCs and 2 Reissbojen, as I will do - or search for pics of LMBs and scratch them for your longer rails!

The S-144 in Le Havre had curved rails in june 1944.

Is-it correct ?

Use the rail you wish, but consider, that the different rails could be replaced within some minutes (only some srews!) due to the opted mine type for the next sortie.

@Bill:
The S-38 type often used the M08/39 of russian origin, that were found in polish arsenals in 1939. You can find a lot of pics, showing M08/39 loaded on s-boats in Oostende. This mines were "consumed" until 1941.
Schatton has built a nice replica in 1:35 (#3546), but not for S-100 types:

and he list several mines used by the S Boats in 1939-1943,maybe I will make a list for the early boat builders as you and Robert have coved the later years
