Yes Robert, you are right! It wasn't at the end of the war - but the time, when the MG15 became redundant as an aircraft weapon, because the Luftwaffe changed to heavy armament like MG 131 or MG151.

"Gegen Kriegsende gab die Luftwaffe die Bestände ab..." = "Near the end of the war, the Luftwaffe delivered their stock..." The MG15 were modified for infantry use, but maybe the KM had the better connections to the Luftwaffe, to get that weapen earlier...

Thank you both; I remeber a picture of a 1:25 model which had a MG 34 on the front and for ammo supply, the soldier had something looking lime a backpack mounted on the axle of the MG 34, the constelation looked logical to me, when you make your approach you don't want to run out of ammo, this was driving my question for MG type and ammo.

Do you have any other photos ( or links ) showing twin MG's on the S-38?

I have seen the fuzzy photos in the Squadron book and in the Dalles-Labourdette books, but they are not clear enough to give me confidence when scratch-building the mountings.

From these and other photos, it looks as if some S-38b ships had the MG34 zwillingssockel after the bridge, twin MG34's(?) near the torpedo tubes and 2 single MG15's on the bridge itself.

I am building different versions of the S-38 and S-38b from the Revell kits, scratch building the bridge, adding the 40mm Bofors, etc., although my painting is so poor that I am embarrassed to upload any photos.

I have scratch-built a few zwillingssockel, as well, which took months to figure out because of the complex mount that had to be simplified for /172 scale.

And welcome to the club. Here's another picture with a twin-mounted MG15 fitted right behind the forecastle. Unfortunately to this state, none of the pictures I have describe clearly how the zwillingssockel looks like... I can’t promise it but if you let me some time, I might get this information for you. Just be patient.

I am myself, sort of embarrassed since I haven't used the airbrush for over 20 years (!) Count down is now on its way that may well trigger soon a general fit of the giggles -- in which you'll be part of! So, don't be afraid to plunge into the fray yourself. Seeing scratch-builds of additional S-Boats will interest more than a modeler here, no question!

The picture you attached looks like the zwillingssockel installed behind the bridge on the S-38b and some S-38's , as described in the Squadron book.

This is the 1st photo I have seen of a zwillingssockel with MG15s : The photos I had found were with MG34 or MG42.

There was a site devoted to the zwillingssockel(!), but it seems to have been taken down : http://www.zwillingssockel.com.

Anyway, I have been able to find several good photos of that mount, but no good pictures of the 2 twin MGs on the port and starboard deck. I am certain that they did not use the zwillingssockel mount due to lack of space.

So, I was particularly interested in the photo you had that showed twin MS on either side of the bridge of an S-38 near the torpedo tubes.

There is a picture on the top of p. 161 of the Dallies-Labourdette book that shows the twin mount ( and the zwillingssockel ), but not clearly enough to be able to model it.

That is what I am trying to do.

I can precisely see the picture you're referring yourself to in Labourdette's book. It's Achim Quistorp's S133 boat! A whole roll of film is available from the French military archives and although it is taken from a distance, I can tell his twin-mounted MGs are MG15.

Hello Friends,

I did write to Cammets about the seamines because I need some for my boot.
The answer from Cammets is that they did sell the masters of the mines to a other firm.

The former Cammet mines will be availible with in 8 weeks from now.
Are there any sugestions for other parts of the S-100 you may contact him.
My suggestion is to ask for the differend radar masts.
Or the othere types of mines.

Robert maybe you can play a role in this matter by providing him with material about the mines and the rails ?

I have a quick question for my boat

I have been on and off again working on this project, and was curious if anyone knows what would be needed to mount the Quad Flak setup on the rear deck.

I know several companies have recently released kits of the Quad and I was picturing it on the back of mine.

Mind you, I am still working on the bridge area

If this may be of some help to you, I think to have bought all Quad sets available on the market and I believe the best one so far, is the one released by Dragon (set #6547).

I am really new to ship modeling, I was building Tamiya's awesome IJN Mikuma, but it met a horrible fate on my model table.
