Hmmm, something that floats with a big cannon on it. Well, there are so many ships to choose from.

I wonder, I wonder. I got an idea, but, I just need to get the kit.

We did it! I'll probably be building a 1/700 USS Washington BB-56.

When do we have to declare what kit we are building? Will do one of the USN's BB or hvy CA, not sure which one yet. I have couple Trumpy's CAs in 1:700 and Dragon/Tamiya BBs.

You can declare whenever you want, whatever you go with just has to be done before the end date. You can even change your mind half way through if you need to. I just switched subjects in a capaign ober at armorama.

Nope!...can't use a CA...guns have to be bigger than an 8 incher!

He's right, sorry I didn't catch it. Now it doesn't have to be a historically accurate ship or one that ever existed in real life at all. You could up-gun a CA and give her 9 inch guns. I wouldn't give her 16 guns though. I built a Baltimore with 6 16 inch guns (using two turrets from an Iowa kit that I decided not to finish) instead of her 9 8 inch guns and the ship looks rather odd because the turrets are too big for how wide she is.

Harv,
The ship must be from the last 100 years or so, I am afraid that those ships are too old.

Hey Randy,
Why not propose an "Ironclads" Campaign of your own here at MSW?...I'll bet we get some bites at the idea!

Hello Randy,
I would be up that. I have been looking over all of the Civil War Ironclades models and they look sweet.
Let me know when you submit the campaign, I will be the first to sign up.
Cheers,
Bruce

I would consider it but I have never hosted a campaign before. I tried to get one started awhile back and only had a few bites. It was open to all of the groups and was based on skis. I stated it could be any figures, civilian and military vehicles, aircraft, etc. I even suggested the water skiing scene from Apocalypse Now. There just wasn't much interest. So I kind of got gun shy in regards to hosting a campaign.

Anyway I might try to host one and see where it goes. Unless.......................................Bruce, feel like hosting this one as well????

Thanks,

HARV

Hello Randy,
I would be honored to be your XO.
I think you should start a thread and see what the others think about a Ironclad campaign.
Cheers,
Bruce

Gentlemen-

I wasn't so sure about the subject I should do so kept skipping through various options until today when the brand new 1/350 HMS Abercrombie from WEM was dropped by my house.
I had ordered this one about a week after its development was announced 4 years ago.
Oh, the excitement...

Planning on an extra beer tonight!

Nice, I have been interested in the WWI beasts for awhile now. I have to clear out my stash of WWII ships first though

Hi all, I've never done a group build before, but it sounds like fun. I plan to build Revell's 1/350 DKM Bismarck. I got it as a christmas gift from my wife, so it's a plus that she will be happy to see me building it!

Started work on the Bismarck Monday. As this is my first surface ship build, I normally build 1/48 WWI and WWII aircraft, I have decided to do a mostly oob build. I will used turned metal barrels for the weapons and have also decided to use Eduard's "Railings and Turret Details" PE set. I am going to paint the ship as she appeared enroute to Grimstadfjord prior to her first, and only, combat sortie.

I have joined the hull and installed the prop shaft and rudders. It went together pretty seamlessly, I only needed a bit of putty around the two parts for the outer prop shafts. It will be primed today.

I do have a question for you guys. Do we post our "in progress" pictures on this thread, or should they be posted on the "Big Guns" Campaign Page?

Thank you for the answer David. Well I guess I'll post my progress on the hull. I will be able to get in alot of work the next three weeks as I am on leave for the next two weeks to recover from some minor surgery.
