Im very honoured,Karl. The fellow who I am building this for is the son of an officer who served aboard her. His plans are to donate the ship to the Canadian War Museum along with several important pieces of naval history. I am very thrilled to be a part of this. This is by far the largest modelling undertaking I have ever done. Im excited to post the next installment of photos, but I still have to finish off the radar tower... Im very happy with the look of the bridge so far!

Hi Everyone.

Great build going on here Jim.

I was wondering does anyone know how closely the HMCS Snowberry kit matched the Bathurst Class Corvettes used by the Royal Australian Navy?

Regards

Well here is a line drawing of a Bathurst class corvette. The length and beam are quite similar, but the draught is deeper on a flower.
I know some guys into R/C boats, and they make fibreglass hulls for the basis of thier projects.
( I had the opprotunity to pick up a 5 foot tribal class corvette hull before Christmas...arrgghhh..too many models not enough lifespan)

Here the main components of the bridge are being hammered out

Nice detail up front.

Here it is before washing to pop out the details

Sub assemblies painted and laid out ready for final assembly. I diverged from instructions and added the supports to the Oerlikon bandstands, rather than adding them to the deck.

a detail shot of the surface radar before paint.

another shot showing my messy CA applications ..

the radar tower prepaint.

I contacted David regarding the angle of the girders, and he confirmed for me that this is accurate..better to ask a dumb question than to try to dissasemble a dumb mistake..

Here is a fuzzy pic, but it shows the splinter padding off well...I like how it came out..

Jim,
really love the work you have done here.
i really could do with your help, I am at the planning stage of a build of a 'Courvette' using the same kit . But here is the twist, in the kit I have I do not have the HULL......
So I need to scratch build it....
I will be setting this on a diorama of a sinking ship, yet not yet named maybe mined or under attack. I wonder if you have any plans of the ship itself as I will need to a degee scratch buil deck by deck.
Any information, pictures or details you can help me with would be great.
Thanks
james

@ James..your question was answered in a PM ..thanks..
@everyone..thanks for the kind words..
I was quite ill in January, so no work was completed on the ship..I decided I needed a "vacation" from her in February, and March has seen me working steady again.
I reached a point where I needed plan drawings or pictures for the radio wires attached to the mast. Specifically, how the wires attach to the bridge.
In order to have this clarified, I have contacted the Historian on board the last remaining Corvette, HMCS Sackville museum. He has been assisting me most graciously, and I am awaiting a set of working drawings that they used when they re-furbished Sackville for the museum. Consequently, while nothing has been added to the finished ship, i have been working away at the sub-assemblies involved. so far the only areas I havent touched yet are the Carley floats and their racks, and the depth charge racks at the far stern of the ship. pics to follow..sorry guys, ive got a full time job again, and Im very busy with life right now..I just wanted to post to show I havent abandoned the thread..
