Guido,

I am looking forward to see what you can make of it. Just wondering though why you sanded off the bilge keels.

Eugene,

nice looking ship, especially for your second model. I am just wondering though whether there is a way to perhaps better hide the segmented nature of the polystyrene used to make the water - the hexes shine through, and this does unfortunately distract the eye from the model itself, as well as the wake of the ship... I do think that your idea of using polystyrene as a base in itself is a good one.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your approval.

Harm - I sanded off the bilge keels as the ship will be set in one of my typical wave-action display. So they won't be seen, but will make fitting the hull into the seabed difficult.

Eugene- Great work! May I suggest to cover the styrofoam base with either acrylic gel or plaster before paiting to make the foam structure disappear?
Well done indeed!

Cheers,
Guido

Nice work Thunder, looks good.

Bit more progress towards the final straight on the Mallard, the ships boats have been fitted out.

and added to the ship, along wwith the the foremast & the aerial support that does duty as a mainmast. Flag halyards added more layering of paint on the base.

Just Davits to finish rigging, formast ladder and stays to add, aerials to rig, maindeck ralings & basre to finish.

Not far to go.

Is it too late to join this campaign? I have an old Monogram USS Ramsey that I've been itching to build. It has superstructure issues aft of the tartar missle launcher that I plan on correcting. This would be my 1st campagn and 1st scratch building project.
Thanks

... by campaign definition, destroyers are allowed. I can't see any reason why Dragon's shouldn't be.

On the home stretch. I am pleased with the colour of the water, as Mallard was a coastal corvette, she is depicted in coastal waters, entering a river estuary, the Thames or the Humber or the Tyne, so stirred up mud.

I have a wayward aerial, but that can be fixed,

Hopefully finished photos tomorrow

Let's try this again. Here is my Monogram USS Ramsey FF-2. I have attached the bulkheads then puttied and sanded the resulting gaps. I also removed the molded on anchor chains and coils of rope placed all over the deck. Up next, I'll open up the hawspipes, fore and portside. And will opening up the stern in order to place the stern firing torpedo launchers.

HMS Mallard is done!

Pics uploaded to the campaign gallery.

Here's a few more, I hade depicted her as a hard working escort on coastal convoys, early / mid 1944. I don't have the exact date the bofors were added, except it was pre D Day.

I am not totlally happy with the weatrhering, but that is something I am still working on.

The Base kit is WEM's HMS Kingfisher, a Kittywake class coastal corvette, a gteat build which I have really enjoyed.

Thanks Guido and Simon.

Ships are a completely different project to an AFV or an aircraft that is for sure. I get more satisfaction from a ship as it takes more effort than the other models.

Wouldn't you know it.. I get right to the last part of the build and discover the decals for the ships ID numbers have gone walk about... missing.. I think I might just cry now...

Still no sign of my decals..

I do not want to do any rigging until I finish the decals as it always seems to get 'removed' by accident no matter how careful I am.

So without further ado, here is my 1/350 Dragon USS Buchanan in her almost-finished glory...

This is only the third ship I have built in my modern era of modelling so I am still learning 'ship' techniques..

Thanks for that Eugene.. Pity my camera doesn't do better macro shots.. Maybe if I invested in a macro lens...

The DDs are great kits. I have two more to do in the stash. I also used Gator's Masks and while they are good they don't wrap arond the model as you might expect. You need to extrapolate and do some hand p[ainting as well. But they are great on the sides!

Gentlemen,
due to some unexpected events hobby- and private life- wise, I will have to cut back on the number of campaigns I had entered. Nothing bad has happened, I just need to set a couple of priorities.
I am sorry to say that I have to withdraw from the campaign for now. I will be watching y'all of cause!
Cheers,
Guido
