Thanks Tim!
It does at that, and it is a fairly simple set without too much multi-bends. Ideal for someone who wants to slip into PE. All you need are a few basic tools and you can have a real go at it.
Cheers

Hello Everyone.
Is Australia to day is ANZAC Day when we remember and salute all the Servicemen and Servicewomen who have served in our Armed Forces over the past 100+ years.
And now for a small update on the Musashi while I wait for parts of the huge aerial to dry.
First of all some pictures of the various parts of the superstructure sitting in place while I test fitted some PE.

Then, with a little luck, these barrels turned up to replace the 155mm plastic barrels in the triple turrets superfiring over the three main turrets. Look puny against the 46cm guns but where the last of the bigger guns firing in the end.

Then we have the largest, most complicated PE part in the set, the aircraft crane on the stern of the ship. Only problem is its base from the kit has disappeared somehow and I am going to have to make a new support. Is amazing how parts just disappear sometimes.

Well, hopefully I will get all the grey, deck parts on today, paint the grey parts then get to apply the wooden deck!! Interesting times ahead.

Lets raise a beer to all our servicemen and women (including me!!) ..

Old fumble fingers
You are doing great things to the old girl Warren. Very nifty PE work.
Cheers,

Thanks for that Julian.
Good news. The crane base reappeared and I butchered it as necessary to attach the crane. Will post some more photos this evening.
Cheers
Warren

Are you allowed multiple entries? Do I need to join IPMS Qld beforehand or any other club?

You don't have to be a member of any club to enter Warren. That is what puts quite a few people off. And you can enter as many as you want. If you have a look at www.qmhe.com.au, it will show you what it is all about.....Cheers Mark

For some reason I just lost 10 minutes of typing. Not happy.... Anyway...
I applied the wooden deck last Friday afternoon.

A close up of the grain. Fantastic value IMHO for just $23.

But After I put it aside and got some sleep I noticed it had lifted..

No problem, I will just rub it down again. Did that and it lifted again.. This time I went and got the extra thin CA and ran some under all the lifted parts that I immediately rubbed down again. Hasn't lifted again so far.. I think I missed a few parts of the deck with paint. They say not to apply the deck to bare plastic.
This will be probaqbly the last blog post before the big Mush is finished. All the PE is on board and all the davits, turrets and gun directors etc in place.

I have put the air wing together and painted the grey undersides, but the floats keep falling off the monoplanes so I need to do a bit more work there.
If I can find a rigging diagram I will put some of that on as well..
Then all I have to do is put the plane crane and huge midships aerial in place and she will be finished. After that it is off to the purgatory of the display cabinet for eternity. After I take some photos for a feature anyway. And it has been suggested I enter the Queensland Modelling Societies show in a few months time... I could enter the Showboat, the GBay and the Mush... My own fleet!
Til next time...
Oh, and I forgot, I have been perusing my Tamiya New Mould Yamato and am looking forward to building it. I have the Pontos Detail Set and Wood Deck ready for it, and I am looking forward to trying the Tamiya railings.... gulp!!

Thanks Julian.
I have already applied a few, but am going to practice on a smaller vessel before I do the Mush. Too much chance of stuffing her up without some practice on a ship.

Thanks Si.
Just a quick update as I was away for two days of this three day long-weekend.
First up some happy snaps of tiny planes. ALl hand painted except the meatballs.

Then I decided to start doing some rigging.

I have no rigging diagram so am just going to wing it.

And I got the huge tripod mast mounted on the rear of the superstructure.
If anyone has a rigging diagram of the Musashi/Yamato a look at it would be very appreciated.
Cheers for now
Warren

Hi Mark.

That is awesome thanks Mate! Pity I took the first two cables to the wrong place... (smacks forehead). Not too hard too remove them and relocate them to the right place though.

Cheers

It may have something to do with it being 2:30am here, but I just ordered 'The Battleship Yamato: Anatomy of the Ship'. I got it for a good price from Amazon and I lashed out as I have the Tamiya Yamato to build yet... with .. all ... those .. lovely ... supports ... for the handrails...

Greetings All.
This is the last blog post until my Yamato book arrives when hopefully I will get a good rigging diagram. The 3D computer generated one is great but many of the rigging lines end in the ether, not attached to anything..

First up a few happy snaps of the flight deck area of the massive ship.

Lastly a couple of snaps of the superstructure with all the PE etc in place.

So the big Mush has been placed in one of the cabinets to protect it from dust until the book arrives. Hopefully before the Qld Modelling Expo..

Oops! I forgot to paint that side of the top of the funnel..
