Hi Daniel, when I took the parcel out of the mailbox I thought they had sent me a brick. It is heavy
I'll try and get some pictures up this weekend.
I now have all the add-ons I need to start the build exept for some crewmen, (they all sneaked of to the "Roger the Rabbit" for a pint and a Cornish pasty). I think I might order some new crewmen from "Wee Friends" after my holiday. How are you and Warren fitted out? Both ready to start up the build after the holiday or do we wait a bit longer to finish the current projects?
Cheers,
Julian

Warren will have to sell one of his cars so that he has parking space for the Mighty Mo, that thing is seriously big.

@ Daniel, yes my friend I pre-ordered the 1/200 Mighty Mo, and my wallet had to be resusitated (bought back to life)..
:)

@ Julian, no need to sell a car for space as I only have 5 cars but enough space for nine. Maybe I will build a new shed to display all the 1/200 ships I seem to be collecting at the moment.

I was surprised at the weight of my smaller set so yours must have been a real shock! Same as the LionRoar High Detail Missouri set.

Cheers
Warren

The Griffon bonus photo etch pack for the Italeri 1/35th Vosper is a very comprehensive set that super details just about every feature of the basic kit. Consisting of a stunning 28 sheets of photo etch parts,a bag of brass wire and plastic rod, 4 resin lewis guns, 2 brass muzzle pieces for the twin Vickers mg's, resin ammunition drums for the Lewis mg's, two resin telephone horns, two resin voice pipe mouth pieces, a sheet of acetate windows, two brass cilinders to be used as Lewis gun ammo storage and a bag of assorted string the box is a veritable treasure trove. The instructions sheets are clear and concise and consist of 22 A-4 size pages. Assembly of the different parts seems te be logical and well though out so on closer examination less intimidating than first impressions implied.
The set comes packed in a sturdy cardboard box, making sure nothing gets damaged in transit. The box lacks the "jewel-box" quality of the LionRoar sets, having a more industrial look. The photo etch the box contains is beautiful, containing well executed detail.
At the price I managed to get hold of it for it is a steal, even at the over-taxed European prices it is worth every last cent.

The box and its contents.

The bag of wire and plastic rods and the resin parts

The extra details for the twin Vickers gun tub.

The Lewis gun and flare launcher mounts for the torpedo tubes.

Deck and wheelhouse details.

Signal flag boxes, strengthening strips etc.

Extra detail for the bridge wind deflector.

An amazing collection of photo etch giving extra detail to the depth charges and their mounts, adding extra Lewis gun mounts and flare launchers on the torpedo tubes, super detailing the wheelhouse and bridge, ( it even includes a parallel ruler for on the chart table.

As mentioned the instructions consist of 22 pages. They come in the carboard box so are folded up in a rather diabolical fashion, (i have put the set at the bottom of a pile of heavy books to get rid of the folds).
All in all a very desirable addition for my Vosper build

cheers,
Julian

If I may make a suggestion, scan them into your computer and print them out, or just photocopy them..

Thanks Warren, I was going to that anyway, usually blast them up to A-3 size as well. It helps getting the really bad fold out first though.

Julian

Julian & Warren,

Hi guys, from where did you get the Griffon detail set/s and at what price please?

Roger in Bendigo.

Hi Roger.
Go here
http://hobby-space.com/Griffon-BPN35001-135-WWII-British-Vosper-72ft6in-MTBs-P3162942.aspx
Or if you want to save some money I can give you the simpler set for $65AUD plus postage.
Cheers
Warren

Hobby space are sold out, but if you still have this set I'd be willing to relieve you of the burden :-)
I can even do Brisbane pick up!

Hi guys!

Newbie from the UK here! I was reading your thread on the Italeri Vosper MTB and figured your expertise could really help me out.

My question is about the P/E sets from Griffon - as far as I can see from their website they do a basic and a bonus set. The pix for the bonus pack seem to suggest a lot more available kit yet the descriptions for the two only differ by a few items, such as tube mounts for m/c guns, assorted ammo boxes and the flare rockets. Given this and the significant difference in cost do you feel that the bonus set is of sufficient extra value to be a good buy?

I should add that I've returned to modelling after several decades and want to go for a lot more detail in my efforts than I did as a kid BUT... that was a fair while ago!

Cheers, Mark

Your call Mark How much detail do you want to add and how much detail can you handle? Warren did a fantastic Vosper build with the standard Griffon set and I used the Griffon bonus. There is actually not much visible difference between the two builds. Warren seems to love working with PE, in the long run the extensive sets just tend to irritate me. Also take into consideration how much experience you have with PE, super glue and the Gator Grip glue variants. You also mention that you have been out of the loop for "several decades"....
Maybe an OOB build would be better to kick off with?
When push comes to shove you are the only person who can decide which course to sail

Julian

Agree 100% Julian.

Mark, you can build a perfectly acceptable MTB with no extra PE at all if you wish.

But the Griffon stuff is very good. There are actually 3 sets, basic, intermediate and advanced. I built the MTB using the Intermeiate one and you miss out on a few things, but the Italeri plastic in those locations is good anyway.

Cheers

Hey Julian, when you get the folds out of your instructions, could you post a copy here so I know what they look like and deside if I want to scratch them for my boat or not. Tried to google them up and came up with everything but them. Thanks, bob d.

Hi Bob,
sorry, can't help you here. I don't want to run into any copywrite issues with Griffin. Most model producers turn a blind eye if I promote a new product but of course the Griffon PE is not an official review article but a private purchase as are most things I post, (I don't seem to qualify for the review articles according to a sticky post online here ).
If you look around there are plenty of photo's of what Griffon offer.

Hey Julian, no problem, I understand what you mean. Will just have to try and get the pics up a bit bigger so the ole mark 3's can see them. Trying to grow old with Grace but she can be a troublesome lady at times. lol
