Beautiful work Warren, looking very good indeed. The detailing thanks to the Griffon goodies is magnificent. You are just about on finals here I would estimate. Have you received your bolts for the tubes? Mine arrived today, , , they are, eh, well sort of small very small indeed

Welcome back Daniel, looks like you had great time with the other grey wolves. No barbecue though it would seem Did you buy any new models?

Cool show Daniel explains you absence.

Love your Gray Wolves club/theme very nice indeed.

A show is a huge committment well done.

We have just had our IPMS National Show and I was involved in that over two days.

A busy old time indeed.

I have been worried I thought that "Team S100" was lost at sea.

Cheers

Hi Julian and thanks for that. No sign of my bolts yet but I am a bit further away. The head size SHOULD be 1mm which is the same as the PE ones, but I am thinking they are much better detailed. Any chance of a nice macro piccie or two?

Notice how the other side are using any excuse they can to avoid contact, even going to the extraordinary length of including a selfie with of all things a car!

Well done Daniel on the show. How did the cars come into it or where they just there for something else? Nice Model A's by the way...

The Vosper can only go as far as the torpedo tubes as I can't install them until the bolts arrive and get attached. Today is the day of the main mast, then the rigging then the depth charges and racks. Always work from the centre outwards at this stage of the game.

Cheers everyone
Warren

Yep, can do that, take some pic's of the bolts. My new camera has an excellent macro setting which will be very necessary
I'll pop 'em up tomorrow.

Don't you just love it when you glue a tiny part down and when you go to put any tension on it it just falls out? sigh..

Lots of fiddly stuff again today, including drilling holes for new attachment points for aerials and wires, putting together the wire tensioners and isolators, exciting stuff like that.

Then working out how to tie the wires (Ezy-line) to the attachment points. First one worked great but not the next 10 or so.. I finally worked it out but it was too late to do much more before I jumped in the mighty Pajero to pick up the missus from her job she does to support me sitting at home building models.

I love my wife very much.. XXX (She reads this stuff!!)

I am going to TRY and solder some isolator parts together tomorrow as glue has not got enough surface area to take the tension of the wire I do not think. I have lots of soldering jobs flying around in aircraft and I am hoping it is good enough to hold these little festers together.. Fun awaits!

Until the morrow..
Cheers

My little friend is doing well having caught a couple of flies this week. Here he is showing off his camo:

Here are the pic's of the bolts I ordered, nice but a tad too small for securing the tubes IMHO:

I will be following the punch and die route:

Work on the bow and stern continues in between punching and , well, not die-ing

Thank God it's weekend again,

A few questions Commander Sallows,

1. Are those bolt heads 1mm in width?

2. Why did you paint the back of the torpedo copper colour (Artistic licence?) and the pads on the torpedo supports brown?

3. What method did you use for your weathering of the deck around the raised bits?

Just wondering is all.

Looking very nice by the way.. Not sure about your fascination with the arachnid though..

Cheers
Warren

Hi Julian,
Coming on a pace !!

Got a favour to ask.. the first pic '8596' appears to show 2 x ullage / filler caps for the fuel tanks! I've always wondered how these were opened, would it be possible to take a photo a bit further out so I can identify the exact area on the deck to check against plans?

Cheers Kev

G'day gentlemen,
in answer to the questions:

This is the area you are interested in Kev.

Warren:

the boltheads are exactly 1mm wide.

The shading you see on the deck is the result of 3 oil washes: Sepia, Lamp black and Wash brown. Still have to do some chipping and post shading but the first steps are taken.

No need to get too exited about the torpedo, I am not even sure I will be using it. The main body is Alclad polished aluminium and the stern is Vallejo liquid metal copper that still needs lots of dry brushing with gold and silver to make it more brass than copper. The brown pads on the loading supports are just to break up a rather monotonous field of grey thingies and is probably also not correct.

No funny remarks about Boris, (the spider, remember the old song by the Who?), the little guy has been providing a fascinating show, catching flies, avoiding birds and having a ball in general

Hi Daniel, yes, your S-100 has entered the danger zone

Just missed the reference to the roast, that must have just about finished you all off after the Grey Wolves adventures ...........

To add a cultural highlight to this blog here are the lyrics to Boris the spider, copywrite "Old fumble fingers", John Entwhistle. One of the greatest bass players I have ever seen and heard:

Look, he's crawling up my wall
Black and hairy, very small
Now he's up above my head
Hanging by a little thread

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Now he's dropped on to the floor
Heading for the bedroom door
Maybe he's as scared as me
Where's he gone now, I can't see

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

There he is wrapped in a ball
Doesn't seem to move at all
Perhaps he's dead, I'll just make sure
Pick this book up off the floor

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

He's come to a sticky end
Don't think he will ever mend
Never more will he crawl 'round
He's embedded in the ground

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

That's culture?!?!

My day was spent rigging the main aerial running the length of the boat. I took pictures but they are too dark and I will take some more tomorrow.
I ended up using large Ezy-Line as it takes the right shape in corners and holds its sag very well. Finally ended up using Tarzan's Grip on the turnbuckles and pulleys for the aerials. Are holding well so far.

Cheers all

Sorry Warren, I couldn't find the Oz version of Boris the spider in which Boris, after successfully biting and killing the swagman, sits under his billabong playfully tossing his billy while waiting for his damper and platypus sandwhich to cool off, having already made a years supply of toothpicks out of the only coolibah tree in the vicinity.

I thought I would take some piccies now the rigging is mostly finished, before any disasters strike!

There you have it. Terrible photos but just quick ones for the moment. Better ones when it is all finished.

Hello again.

Not a lot done today as I have been watching rugby league games all day..
I got the boat numbers applied. I was going to use the decals then I reconsidered and made my own masks using the decals and a printer..

And that;s all for now..
Bye all

That is a very beautiful looking Vosper Warren. Nice work on the rigging. Now you just need to add the tubes and you would appear to be nearly finished

Hi Daniel,
the effect itself is very good but as you say, it's a bit too weathered, ( any German commander letting his boat get to look like that would have been sent to Russian front very quickly ). It would be great for a ship that had been lying unused for a couple of years though, really bleached and weathered by Sun and rain. When I was building my S-100 there was a big discussion on whether the rope lashing for the forward gunpit cover was accurate or not. I see you have used it as well in spite of having the metal clamps fitted.
